A new Star Wars: Battlefront 2 TV spot has given fans their first glimpse of the game’s Crait map, an upcoming piece of DLC which will tie into Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The planet of Crait will play an important role in Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII movie, hosting a sizeable confrontation between The First Order and The Resistance. It has been teased in the trailers for the film, with the splashes of red dust – for want of a better term - providing several eye-catching moments.

If it weren’t for that red dust, the confrontation on Crait would look a lot like the Hoth battle from The Empire Strikes Back, pitting small good guy fighters against sizeable walkers and swathes of Stormtroopers within a washed-out white landscape. Crait is also notable for its native crystal fox species, the vulptexes, which will help The Resistance in the upcoming movie.

In the opening seconds of this brief TV spot, which debuted on ESPN last night, you can see a handful of fleeting shots from Battlefront 2’s in-game iteration of the Crait battle.

In keeping with what fans have seen in The Last Jedi trailers, there is one shot here of a Resistance fighter crashing into the surface of Crait and kicking up a lot of that red dust (which is rumored to tie in with Crait’s pre-war purpose as a mining planet). Another shot in the TV spot shows The First Order’s fearsome forces: a row of giant walkers and a scattering of Stormtroopers, beginning their clash with The Resistance.

It is worth noting that these Stormtroopers have different uniforms than the new batch of Snowtroopers that was unveiled recently. This makes sense because, despite its visual similarity to Hoth, Crait is believed to be a warm planet rather than an icy one. It should be interesting to see how the battle in the game compares to the one in the film.

However, you might be worried about downloading extra content for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 considering all of the bad press it has been getting about pay-to-win mechanics and in-game microtransactions. This time, though, you needn’t fear: for owners of the game, The Last Jedi DLC pack will be free. There is a lot of stuff you need to pay for in Battlefront 2, but this DLC isn’t one of them.
