Rey fights off Stormtroopers using her lightsaber in the newly released Star Wars Battlefront II launch trailer. In the clip, we see the newest Star Wars hero expertly wielding the blue-bladed saber - the same one we presume she is using in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which was originally Anakin Skywalker's and then passed on to Luke. Recently, Lucasfilm officially declared the lightsaber to be Rey's.
We're only a few weeks until Battlefront II becomes available and EA is bringing out their most enticing marketing video thus far to keep fans bubbling with excitement. Promised to be a bigger and better version than its 2015 installment, Star Wars Battlefront, the sequel addresses some of the complaints fans had about its predecessor - including not adding a campaign mode and the lack of content included in the main game.
The new Battlefront II launch trailer (above), posted by EA Star Wars, highlights the game's evolving multiplayer aspect with a slew of action scenes featuring some of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars lore. We see scenarios that we could only concoct in our heads before, like Darth Maul taking on Master Yoda, while others are adapted from some of the most iconic scenes in the films, such as Darth Vader and Luke's intense battle aboard the second Death Star. We also spotted Kylo Ren and even Boba Fett. The game does not seem to scrimp on aerial battles as we see a flurry of shots from what appears to a space dogfight before it closes out with single-player protagonist Iden Versio saying, “The Empire’s time has come.”
With such an action-packed one-minute clip, it is difficult to distinguish the single-player canon from the multiplayer non-canon. Having said that, the game looks fantastic and feels grand in scale - something that we expect especially with Battlefront II taking on different plot points from all eras of the mythos and putting it in one game. It also feels immersive, as if the game really drops you at the center of the war between the Rebellion/Resistance and the Empire/First Order.
Whether Battlefront II lives up to the hype or not remains to be seen. Based on what we have seen so far when we sampled the game's much-anticipated campaign mode, it appears to have the potential to wow players. The narrative has some interesting points and Iden is a multi-faceted character who deserves to be at the forefront of the single-player feature.
Star Wars Battlefront II will be available on November 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC worldwide. But for those who want to get their hands on it earlier, you can choose to get the Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition starting on November 14 or via the Play First Trials on EA Access and Origin Access starting a couple days earlier on November 9.
