EA and DICE's Star Wars Battlefront II features a wide selection of heroes and villains for fans to play, but some are much stronger than others. DICE introduced multiple new heroes to Battlefront II's roster, which meant that the studio had to oversee several rebalances, tweaks, buffs, and nerfs for the entire cast, and by now practically everyone is different than they were at release. New villains such as Captain Phasma, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and BB-9E were added to the Separatists, Empire, and First Order factions, while Finn, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and BB-8 were added to the heroes.

There are a number of different game modes in Battlefront 2, and certain heroes were designed with specific game modes in mind. Buff-heavy characters like Finn are more conducive to Battlefront 2's Supremacy or Co-Op modes, whereas a fast-moving heavy-hitter like Luke might be better off in a Heroes vs Villains match. These specialist heroes can turn the tide of a match, but there are also some heroes that are a solid choice no matter the situation.

It’s also worth noting that some trooper modes only offer heroes from within a given map’s era. In these cases, this means that on Clone Wars maps like Felucia or Kamino, the only choice for a light-side blaster hero will be Chewbacca. Even though they might rank higher, Leia, Lando, and Finn aren’t options, as they didn't exist during the Clone Wars. For players who want all the choices no matter the map, check out Mophead’s Instant Action Tweaks mod. Otherwise, there won’t be the choice to play as Rey in Battlefront 2 on Rogue One's Scarif map.

Rey's Mind Trick Ability Is Easily Countered By Battlefront's Villains

Rey ranks low for the heroes of Star Wars Battlefront 2

She may be one of the strongest characters in the Skywalker Saga, but in Battlefront 2 Rey falls surprisingly short. The main reason is that two of her three abilities rely on the skill level of other players in a match. Her Insight ability allows friendly players to see through walls. With good teamwork and positioning this can be a valuable advantage, but since the game has been out for four years, most veteran players are already accustomed to where enemies spawn and where they tend to congregate.

Insight is helpful in tandem with Dash Strike, however, as it can help discern the most efficient place to initiate the charge. Mind Trick also relies on the skill level of other players, since it reverses their movement controls, slows them, and somewhat blurs their screen. For players who have been on the game since launch, and have earned enough Battle Points in Battlefront 2 to play as a villain, these effects are easily countered. Dash Strike is a good ability in the right circumstances, but more often than not leaves the player surrounded by enemies and vulnerable to fire from all directions.

Lando Calrissian Isn't As Powerful As Other Battlefront 2 Heroes

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Lando Calrissian

Compared to other blaster heroes like Han Solo or Princess Leia, Lando Calrissean's gun is lacking both in range and power, despite being a “Night Sniper.” The gun’s night vision is helpful on dark maps like Endor and Mos Eisley (night), but gets washed out on outdoor maps like Kashyyyk and Mos Eisley (day). Through all the nerfs and buffs and new characters that Battlefront 2 evolved through, Lando received barely any changes since launch. After Battlefront 2 received its last update back in April 2020, it became clear that Lando wasn’t going to budge, which means he remains one of the game's least effective heroes.

That said, night vision is extremely helpful when shooting through Lando’s Smoke Grenade. Since most enemies cannot retaliate, it gives him a major advantage when it comes to visibility, making him a more defensive shooter. While his Sharp Shot ability is excellent in trooper modes, it’s not as effective in Heroes vs Villains since saber-wielders can block it. His Disabler can stun-lock targets, but it’s usually too little, too late when up against an advancing Kylo Ren or Darth Maul.

Battlefront 2 Players Shouldn't Underestimate BB-8

BB-8 and BB-9E fight in Star Wars Battlefront 2.

When DICE’s latest update completed Battlefront 2 by adding sequel-trilogy droids BB-8 and BB-9E, many fans were understandably disappointed. With the many optional sequel-era heroes and villains the studio could have added (Poe Dameron, General Hux, Rose Tico, or Supreme Leader Snoke), it was considered a let-down by some in the Battlefront community. Disappointment aside, BB-8 is by no means a poorly-designed or ineffectual hero - but there are usually better options. Able to take a beating, deal high radial damage, and capture Command Posts faster, they're an excellent choice for group-based offensive objectives.

The problem with both droids is that they are primarily support heroes. BB-8s’ basic shock prod attack deals very low amounts of damage, even compared to basic infantry. Getting into the thick of the fight with BB-8 is only advisable if Cable Spin isn’t on cooldown. His Resistance Backing does help keep track of enemy locations, but so does Rey’s Insight and Finn’s Undercover Team. Both Finn and Rey can offer support without having to sacrifice their damage output. Still, for players trying to push the objective, BB-8 is a great candidate. With Star Wars Battlefront 2 taking a page from Battlefield V and allowing players to spawn near their squadmates, BB-8 can pop in instantly, unleash a devastating Cable Spin, and then hasten the capturing of a Command Post before the enemy team can regroup.

Chewbacca's Bowcaster Does Serious Damage In Battlefront 2

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Chewbacca

The phrase ‘glass cannon’ should never apply to a wookie, but in this game it sort of does. Chewbacca is definitely tougher and sturdier than battle droids and stormtroopers, but concentrated fire can take him down pretty quick. He’s a bigger target than other blaster heroes, fires slower, his only real defense is to kill his enemies faster than they can kill him. He has no lightsaber to deflect fire with, no Squad Shield like Leia, and no obscuring Smoke Grenade like Lando.

All things considered, Battlefront 2's Chewbacca is one of the industry’s better attempts to make a playable, balanced Chewbacca - at least until Star Wars games potentially explore Solo’s canceled sequels. Since a continuous offense is Chewie’s best defense, it’s a good thing that’s where he shines. All three of his abilities are excellent for holding chokepoints, and with the right Star Cards this angle can be pushed to an even further degree. When Furious Bowcaster is active, trooper targets can be killed in a single shot, making the Echoing Roar Star Card especially powerful. From the right vantage point, players can use it to keep the Furious Bowcaster buff active for incredibly long periods of time.

Finn Can Turn The Tide In Galactic Assault And Supremacy

every hero star wars battlefront 2 ranked finn

With leadership buffs, wall-hacks, and strong blaster abilities, Finn combines the support aspects of BB-8 with the heavy-duty ranged damage of Chewbacca. With the right positioning, Finn can stand on his own against large groups of enemy troops, but he’s at his best with a large group of communicating players all pushing or holding an objective. Anyone who has played Battlefront 2 before, however, will know that this level of collaboration is a rare occurrence, unlike the more teamwork-focused Battlefield games, which feature deeper squad mechanics.

With two of his three abilities being radial buffs, it’s clear that DICE intended for Finn to be more of a support character. As such, he’s rarely used in Heroes vs. Villains modes where he has fewer friendly targets to affect with his radials, and he has a higher chance of going toe-to-toe with lightsaber-wielders like Darth Vader. With the Raised To Do One Thing and Stay Calm Star Cards, Finn’s Deadeye acts as a stronger version of Chewie’s Furious Bowcaster. This allows for long killstreaks and easy cleanup, but is boring to play and can be easily countered by enemy Sith.

Princess Leia's E-11 Can Take Down The Strongest SWBF2 Villains

every hero star wars battlefront 2 ranked leia

DICE never fulfilled its promise to add more female heroes to Star Wars Battlefront 2, but at least Captain Phasma, Iden Versio, and Princess Leia are some of the game’s stronger heroes. Like Finn, Leia is also a good pick for pushing objectives and working with a team. Leia has more tricks up her sleeve than Finn, however, and this versatility for different scenarios and game modes gives her a leg up.

Leia is one of the few blaster heroes that can face off against a lightsaber-wielder and still have a chance of winning. With Star Cards like Rebel Heart, Stay Together, High Spirit, and Relentless Firing, she can absorb and recover from high amounts of damage. With her powerful E-11, Leia can stay alive and still dish out enough firepower to take down careless Sith. Oftentimes the success of an objective push relies on how well a Leia player can use their Squad Shield. In the right spot it can help players hold ground and recover their health, but it can also prevent allies from returning fire at a crucial moment.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Is The Best Defensive Battlefront 2 Hero

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Battlefront 2 received numerous Clone Wars updates, including a hero pack that added everyone’s favorite Clone Wars star, General Obi-Wan Kenobi. One of the most defensive heroes in the game, Obi-Wan is one of Battlefront’s best-translated characters, combining high survivability with well-rounded abilities. Obi-Wan’s Defensive Rush is great for crowd control on trooper modes, but Restrictive Mind Trick and All-Out Push can turn the tide of a fight in practically any game mode.

In Battlefront 2, Obi-Wan’s most significant advantage is his uncanny lightsaber deflection. With the Safeguard and Perfect Defense Star Cards, he can easily riddle attacking blaster opponents with a barrage of their own bullets. This keeps him from taking damage and zones his enemies until he can close the distance with his lightsaber attacks. He may lack the speed of Luke Skywalker or the AoE damage of Anakin, but newer players will probably be able to stay alive longer by using Obi-Wan.

Han Solo's DL-44 Destroys Villains In Star Wars Battlefront 2

Han Solo Star Wars Battlefront 2 Playable Character

Though Star Wars means lightsabers and force powers, Battlefront is still an FPS game at its core. While there are other overpowered guns in Star Wars Battlefront 2, Han Solo’s DL-44 reigns supreme. This gun maintains pinpoint accuracy across extreme ranges and still has enough firepower to kill a trooper in a single headshot. Han doesn’t have much in the way of defending himself, and there’s no real benefit to bringing him for objective pushes, but players with good aim will be able to score kills consistently - even against enemy heroes.

Han’s abilities are decent, and different permutations of Star Cards can either round out his weaknesses, or instead stack together to play to his inherent strengths. Keep Your Head Cool and Heavily Modified Blaster can make his powerful gun’s basic shots less costly, but All In and Air Burst can add more utility to his Shoulder Charge and Detonite Charge respectively. Up against enemy heroes, the player must be more wily, timing Han’s abilities and dodge rolls to move and duck beneath flailing lightsabers. With enough practice, however, Han can stand his ground against encroaching Sith.

Luke Skywalker Is One Of Battlefront 2's Strongest Duelists

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Yavin Ceremony Luke Skywalker

There’s always been something special about Star Wars games with playable Jedi, and Battlefront 2 is no exception. Little gets Star Wars fans more pumped than hearing the sting of the franchise’s main title theme while running onto the battlefield as Luke Skywalker. Aside from the nostalgia factor, Luke is an incredibly competent hero, combining crowd-clearing force powers with fast, aggressive lightsaber attacks.

Luke is one of the game’s more versatile heroes, with his Star Cards divided into equal parts survivability and increased damage. Jedi Fighter and Deflection Mastery can synergize to make Luke play more like Obi-Wan, while Strong Repulse and Extended Push Reach modify his Push and Repulse for better crowd control during trooper modes. In close-quarters maps with lots of corners and ambush opportunities, Luke is an excellent choice, able to dispatch large groups in seconds before slipping out of danger with Rush.

Yoda Is An Extremely Powerful Battlefront 2 Hero

Star Wars Battlefront 2's Yoda

In order for Battlefront 3 to be a great Star Wars game, it needs more heroes like Yoda. DICE encourages team collaboration and objective-centric modes, but support characters (like BB-8 or Finn) are rarely as fun to play as heavy-hitting, force-wielding Jedi like Obi-Wan or Luke. Yoda challenges this notion by being both simultaneously, using his force powers both not only to clear large groups of enemies, but to buff nearby allies.

Yoda’s small frame makes him hard to hit, and anyone that tries has to break through his unparalleled block ability. DICE buffed Yoda so that he’s now able to block and clash with enemy lightsabers, redirect Force Lightning, and completely absorb all incoming blaster fire, rechanneling it into an incredibly powerful area-of-effect attack. The Opposing The Dark Side Star Card enables him to deal more damage to enemy heroes (and killing them restores large amounts of his health). Enduring Presence, Feel The Force, and Size Matters Not all affect his Presence ability, which is a huge help both to nearby allies and to himself.

Anakin Skywalker Is Star Wars Battlefront 2's Most Powerful Hero

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Anakin Skywalker

As a part of the game's shift to the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker joined Battlefront 2 via the Chosen One update. True to his moniker, Anakin is one of the strongest heroes in the game, even after DICE gave him several nerfs. His abilities are singularly powerful, but when chained together in tandem he becomes a hero-slayer, able to knock a Sith’s health down to half in just a couple of seconds. Anakin is also the only hero in the game to have four abilities instead of the usual three.

Anakin’s base attacks, health pool, and blaster deflection are some of the best in the game, making him a well-rounded lightsaber hero that’s able to effortlessly switch between offense and defense. The damage of Passionate Strike was decreased in the game’s final update, but it remains an effective way to break through lightsaber blocks, giving Anakin a huge edge over Sith in melee combat. Pull Dominance, Heroic Might, and Retribution are all incredibly powerful area-of-effect moves that make Anakin an easy choice for breaking through enemy command posts and holding control points in Star Wars Battlefront II, no matter what Star Cards he has equipped.
