The newest Star Wars: Battlefront 2 update includes a reference to Adam Driver's legendary Saturday Night Live sketch character and Kylo Ren's Undercover Boss persona, "Matt the radar technician." The Battlefront 2 Easter egg shows Matt's iconic uniform in the game world, along with a nod to Star Wars: The Last Jedi's First Order ironing droid joke.

On its own, the appearance of a Star Wars character named Matt may seem fairly insignificant, but the lowly radar tech gained quite a bit of love in the franchise's fandom. Spawned in a 2016 episode of SNL, Matt the radar technician was a non-canon disguise used by Kylo Ren in an in-universe Undercover Boss special, in which he unsuccessfully attempted to work unnoticed among the First Order's low-level employees. The sketch has gained more than 51 million views to date, prompting a 2019 follow-up where Kylo Ren goes undercover as "Randy," a First Order intern.

EA and DICE (via Star Wars Stuff on Twitter) have now paid homage to Adam Driver's viral characters with a radar technician outfit in one of Battlefront 2's First Order ship areas. There's no blonde-wigged human attached to the uniform, but it features Matt's unmistakable, bright-orange vest and First Order-branded jumpsuit. The costume is also constantly being ironed by a droid - a reference to a shot in The Last Jedi that made a steam-venting iron look like a landing ship, only to zoom out and reveal the truth.

The April 29 update was Battlefront 2's last major content drop, bringing the 2015 Battlefront's Scarif map (from Rogue One) to the sequel. The update also added the Scarif, Hoth, Death Star II, Tatooine, and Yavin IV maps to Supremacy mode and Instant Action in the Rebellion era, plus a new solo Instant Action Missions mode. DICE said the update "realized [the team's] vision" for the game, making Battlefront 2 essentially complete as a Star Wars battle simulation experience.

In addition to the new gameplay features, the update also added appearances for several heroes, including Kylo Ren. Matt's wardrobe wasn't one of them, but PC-owning fans of the SNL character can already play as him via a Battlefront 2 Matt the technician mod. Interestingly, the Battlefront 2 update's Easter egg isn't the first canonical appearance of Matt's outfit. The radar tech gear appeared in the Star Wars: Resistance TV show in 2019, as well as in the Star Wars: Age of Resistance - General Hux comic book.
