Out of all the unique members of The Bad Batch, it's the gigantic Wrecker that stands out the most, not just because of his size, but due to the horrific scarring on the left side of his face, including a blinded milky-white eye. Standing a full six inches taller than every other clone of Jango Fett, and weighing significantly more as well, Wrecker is impossible to miss even without the scars. While the answer for his facial scarring hasn't been officially revealed, there are plenty of clues available and inferences to make in order to take an educated guess.

Each member of the Bad Batch has distinct abilities, and Wrecker has several that, while helpful, also put him at great risk of injury or death. Creator of The Bad Batch Dave Filoni has said that the Wrecker character was based on the Incredible Hulk, in terms of his appearance and phenomenal strength, but being big and strong isn’t Wreckers only special ability. He is also Clone Force 99’s demolitions expert, showing a great affinity for blowing things up. In episode 1 “Aftermath,” there are several times when Wrecker expresses immense pleasure for his demolition work. Early in the episode, he enthusiastically declares, “Let’s blow something up.” Later on, when questioned by fellow Bad Batch member Tech whether his predilection for explosives was part of his genetic programming, he indignantly responds, “I like to blow things up because I like to blow things up.” again showing his fondness for things that go boom.

Getting a closer look at Wrecker’s scars, they could very well be burn marks. Perhaps over-eagerness to explode something backfired on the big clone while fighting Separatist battle droids. The look of the scar and the blinded eye, paired with a lot of explosives, lends to the distinct possibility that Wrecker caused self-inflicted wounds as the result of an explosion. Clone Force 99 had seen plenty of battle action during the Clone Wars, boasting a 100% success rate on missions as part of the Grand Army of the Republic. Their unique abilities made them the perfect group to partake in the most dangerous missions of the Clone Wars. It stands to reason that repeatedly going on said missions led to a number of close calls to their lives, and it seems likely that one of those missions left Wrecker permanently scarred.

Wrecker looking angry in Star Wars The Bad Batch

In a description of Wrecker on StarWars.com, his injuries are described as the result of “the ravages of war,” further supporting the theory that something went wrong on one of Clone Force 99’s missions. Ravages of war actually suggest that his scars could be the result of several different injuries and, as Wrecker's style of fighting is very direct, he could have easily been injured multiple times in the field of battle. At one point during this first episode, Wrecker is shot during a training exercise, leading Crosshair to admonish him by saying, “You got shot, it happens all the time.” This only further suggests that Wrecker is reckless and has sustained several injuries during the Clone Wars.

There are still a lot of stories to be told about Clone Force 99, and it seems likely that every member will have their backstory examined more closely. Wrecker will be no exception, as the big guy’s scarring will probably be explained at some point. However, the clues dropped in this episode, as well as his appearances in The Clone Wars, reveal plenty about what may have happened to Wrecker. The only thing left to do now is to keep watching The Bad Batch.
