The Star Wars universe keeps expanding through different media, and among its new projects is the animated series The Bad Batch, a spinoff of the fan-favorite series The Clone Wars, and as such it will see the return of different characters – and here are all those confirmed to appear. The history of Star Wars began in 1977 with the release of the movie now known as Star Wars: A New Hope, which introduced the audience to the characters that would lead this universe for decades, such as Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Darth Vader.
The success of A New Hope made way for one of the most extensive and profitable franchises in the entertainment industry, which has extended to other media outside the Skywalker saga, formed by all nine movies following the journey of Anakin, Luke, Leia, and Rey Skywalker. The Star Wars franchise covers a bit of everything: from video games to TV shows and even theme park attractions, most notably the immersive themed area at Disneyland and Walt Disney World called Galaxy’s Edge. However, and aside from the movie saga, the Star Wars universe is best known for its TV shows, and one of the most popular and beloved ones is the Clone Wars, set between Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
The Clone Wars introduced new characters and featured some of those seen in the Skywalker saga, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Maul. Given the many opportunities that such an extensive universe brings, Lucasfilm and Disney are giving some of the characters from Clone Wars and other Star Wars media a new chance to shine in the animated series The Bad Batch, set to stream exclusively on Disney+. The series is a sequel and spinoff from The Clone Wars and will follow Clone Force 99 a.k.a. the Bad Batch, a group of elite clone troopers with genetic mutations who in the aftermath of the Clone Wars go on daring mercenary missions. As such, The Bad Batch will see the return of some characters from Clone Wars, along with some from The Mandalorian, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and the Skywalker saga. Captain Rex
Captain Rex is a veteran Clone Captain, Clone Commander, and Advanced Recon Commando. He commanded the Grand Army of the Republic’s 501st Legion of clone troopers during the Clone Wars (and as captain of the 501st, he was second-in-command to Anakin Skywalker) and later served as captain and commander within the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. Following the death of his longtime friend Fives, Rex found his inhibitor chip, which enabled him and Ahsoka Tano to escape Order 66. Captain Rex is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Hunter
Hunter is one of the many clones of Jango Fett and as such is only known by his nickname. He was the leader of Clone Force 99, and his mutation is that of enhanced senses, which allow him to perceive electromagnetic frequencies. He led the team on various missions in Clone Wars, including the rescue of Echo from the Separatists. Just like Rex, he’s voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Wrecker
Wrecker is a clone created on the planet Kamino and whose mutations grant him superhuman strength, and was very into explosions and destroying enemy material with his hands – however, his biggest weakness was his fear of heights. It's his affinity to explosions that helped the Bad Batch free Echo, as Wrecker used bombs to destroy the stasis chamber he was kept in. Wrecker is also voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Tech
Tech’s mutations make him look leaner, fairer, and younger than his colleagues, and he’s that one member of the group with a lot of trivial knowledge about a variety of subjects, and the one who doesn’t hesitate in sharing it with the rest. He’s also the one with an affinity for science and great skills with technology, including engineering, decryption, and language translation, so much that his armor has a specialized visor that acts as a computer display, and a computer terminal installed into the forearm, which allows him to access different functions such as trajectory calculation and translation of various alien languages. As part of the Bad Batch, Tech is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Crosshair
Thanks to his mutations, Crosshair possesses exceptional eyesight, which allows him to act as the sniper of the group – and those sharpshooting abilities are what earned him the nickname of Crosshair. However, these abilities are also why he has a feeling of superiority and isn’t a fan of working with unaltered clone troopers. His crude attitude and dry sense of humor often clash with Wrecker’s personality, but they are able to work together quite well. Crosshair is yet another Bad Batch member voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Echo
CT-1409, best known as Echo (or the Hero of Anaxes), was born on Kamino and was given the nickname “Echo” as he had a tendency to repeat orders during training exercises. Echo was severely injured during a mission after an explosion that led his colleagues to believe he was killed, but he was taken prisoner by the Separatists, who kept him alive by turning him into a cyborg at the cost of his consciousness. Echo became a pawn for the Separatists, but when Rex learned of his survival, he accompanied Clone Force 99 and Anakin Skywalker on a mission to rescue him. As a result of the damage he went through, he's pale and his body has numerous cybernetic implants that even though they come in handy, also left his body weak and emaciated. Echo is also voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Saw Gerrera
Moving away from characters from the Clone Force 99 group, The Bad Batch will see the return of Saw Gerrera, who even though made his Star Wars debut in The Clone Wars, his biggest role to date has been in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where he was played by Forest Whitaker. Gerrera was mentored in military combat by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Captain Rex, and Rogue One saw him as the foster parent and mentor of Jyn Erso and leader of the extremist rebel cell known as the Partisans. Saw Gerrera is voiced by Andrew Kishino in The Bad Batch.
Fennec Shand
Fennec Shand is one of the newest characters in the Star Wars universe as she debuted in Disney+’s The Mandalorian. Shand is an elite mercenary and assassin who was active during the rise of the Empire, during which she encountered the Clone Force 99. She made a name for herself thanks to her work as a mercenary for the underworld’s top crime syndicates, which also earned her various enemies. She was shot in the stomach by Toro Calican and left for dead, but was found and rescued by Boba Fett, who saved her life with the use of cybernetics. In return, Shand served as his partner, assisting him in the mission to recover his old armor and then rescue Grogu alongside Din Djarin. Ming-Na Wen reprises her role as Fennec Shand in The Bad Batch.
Grand Moff Tarkin
The famous high-ranking Imperial officer seen in various Star Wars media, Grand Moff Tarkin, returns in The Bad Batch. Tarkin debuted in A New Hope and was the one who ordered the destruction of Alderaan, and was killed at the end of the movie when the Death Star was destroyed. However, Tarkin has appeared in other Star Wars media, most notably Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One, The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Rebels. Grand Moff Tarkin is voiced by Stephen Stanton.
Omega
Omega is a new character in the Star Wars universe, and as such, not much is known about her. She’s a human child who meets Clone Force 99 in Kamino and is offered by Hunter the chance to leave with them. Omega appeared in the trailer for The Bad Batch, where her name was revealed through close caption, so she might be on her way to a bigger role in Star Wars.
Lama Su
Lama Su is a Kaminoan male statesman whose government was responsible for growing the clone troopers that formed the Grand Army of the Republic. Although he worked with the Jedi Generals, he was also in league with the Sith who conspired to destroy the Jedi Order through the infamous Order 66. Lama Su is briefly seen in the trailer for The Bad Batch, thus confirming his appearance in the show.
