Star Wars: The Bad Batch has revealed new details about both Boba Fett and the mysterious clone Omega, explaining the meaning of the latter’s name. Omega is part of The Bad Batch’s ensemble cast and is among the many clones of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett. But like the clone commandos of Clone Force 99, Omega is an enhanced clone who stands apart from her standard brothers (ambivalently nicknamed “regs”) and flees the fledgling Galactic Empire with the Bad Batch. Unfortunately, the Kaminoans want Omega back, as she’s key to their contingency plan against the Empire, who no longer want to use clones in their military.
Boba Fett, meanwhile, is an unaltered clone of Jango Fett - meaning he has no age acceleration, inhibitor chips, or anything else the others clones share. While all clones, even the Bad Batch, have a degree of modifications made to their physical and mental traits, Boba is a pure genetic replica of his template. Jango specifically demanded an unaltered clone to raise him as a son. After Jango’s death at the start of the Clone Wars, Boba gradually honed his skills as a young bounty hunter, and while he didn’t officially become a Mandalorian warrior like his father, he continued Jango’s legacy and became one of the galaxy’s deadliest mercenaries by the events of the Star Wars original trilogy.
The Bad Batch season 1, episode 9, “Bounty Lost” reveals the full origin of Omega and why the Kaminoans are trying to capture her. Boba Fett was the first unaltered clone of Jango Fett, and before he was named by his father, he was known as “Alpha.” Omega is the second unaltered Jango clone. Alpha and Omega are the respective first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, and the phrase “alpha and omega” refers to the “first and last” of a subject. Since Jango Fett died just as the Clone Wars began, Boba and Omega are his first and last unaltered clones, making them his alpha and omega - his successors.
Jango’s death also led to the steady decline of usable Fett DNA for clone production on Kamino. The Kaminoans were forced to “stretch” Jango’s DNA, resulting in some defects among the next generations of clones. By the time the Sith coup replaced the Republic with the Empire, the Kaminoans decided it was time to begin producing more clones, this time with fresh DNA from an unaltered Jango clone. For various reasons, Boba Fett is not being targeted by the Kaminoans, but the mercenaries Cad Bane and Fennec Shand are tasked with capturing Omega so her creators can grow more clones.
While Omega didn’t receive growth acceleration treatments or mental modifications, she is the only female clone of Jango Fett. It’s unclear whether or not this was an intentional change made by the Kaminoans, but it nevertheless doesn’t affect her eligibility to be cloned. If it was intentional, the Kaminoans may have wanted to differentiate her from Boba and the Republic clones, or perhaps prevent her from being mistaken for Boba by Jango. In any case, Omega’s name now has more significant meaning in Star Wars: The Bad Batch and the young has more in common with Boba Fett than the Republic’s Clone Troopers.
