Following the releases of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story the past two years, Disney has officially ushered the Star Wars universe into its new, post-George Lucas-controlled era. With one film set to be released every year for the foreseeable future, the studio is currently in the midst of creating and finishing two more ambitious endeavors with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi later this year, and next year's Untitled Young Han Solo movie, which is currently filming in England . After the latter hits theaters in 2018, Lucasfilm will release the final film in its new main trilogy with director Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX.

However, Disney and Lucasfilm's plans for the Star Wars franchise don't end there, and in fact, there's still one more title that Disney has already announced set to be released after all of the previously mentioned titles. And for those who may not already know, that film is the currently Untitled Third Star Wars Anthology film, which will be released sometime in 2020.

While we still don't know much about said spin-off too, a new report may reveal the first creative member possibly involved in the mysterious project. Omega Underground is reporting that Mr. Robot creator, Sam Esmail, is currently in talks with Lucasfilm to write one of their Star Wars anthology films. The TV writer and director has reportedly taken multiple pitch meetings with the studio about a film in their lineup, which the report speculates could either be the highly-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off or a Boba Fett standalone film. It's unknown if Esmail is being sought to direct the film as well, following his critically-acclaimed work directing multiple episodes of Mr. Robot.

Now, make sure to take all of this with a grain of salt for the time being, but it does come at an interesting time. After all, during the recent Star Wars Celebration in Orlando last week, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy teased that an announcement about the untitled 2020 anthology film should be coming sometime this summer. Those comments, while minimal, appeared to indicate a possible creative team and direction finally coming together for the project, and Esmail could very well wind up being an integral part of that team.

Of course, it's hard to know which film Disney and Lucasfilm will end up making with the 2020 release, since it's well-known that the 2020 film was originally going to be the second anthology title released before the Young Han Solo movie, with director Josh Trank attached to it at the time. Reports have often said that film was going to be the rumored Boba Fett stand-alone, before everything between Trank and Lucasfilm fell apart, and the project was postponed.

But since then, fan support for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off has grown significantly, and with little references to Obi-Wan and no appearance from Ewan McGregor at Celebration this year, speculation that something is in the works at Disney and Lucasfilm revolving around that character has increased as a result. All of this is, of course, just hearsay for the time being, and only time will truly tell if Esmail does indeed become involved in one of these anthology films, and if so, which one. But following his work on Mr. Robot, it's safe to say that his involvement could just mean even more positive things for the future of the Star Wars universe onscreen.
