Stellan Skarsgård hints that not all is as it seems with his character in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off series AndorAndor will be joining the ranks of The Mandalorian and this month's upcoming The Book of Boba Fett as another Disney+ streaming series dedicated to exploring the broader Star Wars universe. It will follow the Rebel officer Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in the years before his appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which in and of itself was a prequel to the first Star Wars film, A New Hope. The 12-episode debut season of Andor is set to premiere on Disney+ between July and September 2022.

Stellan Skarsgård will be appearing in the series alongside Luna in an as-yet-unspecified role. The actor has already made a big recent sci-fi splash by appearing as the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in the sci-fi hit Dune, which hit theaters and HBO Max this October. He also has a long relationship with Disney's other hit franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although his character, Erik Selvig, hasn't appeared in some time, he has been featured in 4 total MCU movies, first appearing in 2011's Thor.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Stellan Skarsgård chatted about his time on Andor. He said it was good "to work with Diego Luna, who's an old friend," making this the first time the two pals have actually appeared together onscreen. He explained that the role was "fun to play because he has a lot of different faces to show." Whether this means his character is a shape-shifter, adept in disguise, or simply two-faced is still entirely unknown. Read the full quote below:

The writing is really good. It's the same writer that did Rogue One. And also to work with Diego Luna, who's an old friend. So I was excited by that. And then my character is... Well, you'll see. It's fun to play because he has a lot of different faces to show.

Baron Harkonnen emerges from his oil bath in Dune.

Other Andor cast members in unconfirmed roles include Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller. However, the show will feature several returning Star Wars characters, two of which have already been confirmed. Forest Whitaker will return as Saw Gerrera, the character he portrayed in Rogue One, and Genevieve O'Reilly will reprise her role as Rebel Alliance founding leader Mon Mothma, who was originally played in Return of the Jedi by Caroline Blakiston.

So far, details on the plot and characters of Andor have been thin on the ground. Hopefully, once The Book of Boba Fett airs, the runway will be clear for promotion to begin on the future Star Wars series, which also include spin-offs starring Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Once that's the case, maybe there will be space for the creators to start dropping hints about what fans might expect, including further details on who exactly Skarsgård will be playing.
