Disney+'s upcoming Star Wars spinoff show, Andor, has reportedly wrapped up filming. The show will serve as a prequel to Gareth Edward's 2016 film Rogue One, and will follow the story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) during his early years with the Rebel Alliance. Little is known about the show's plot or characters apart from a brief Andor sizzle reel shown late last year, which teased that the show would be a "spy thriller."

In-universe, Cassian's history is tragic. As he reveals to Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) in Rogue One, his struggle against the Empire was a lifelong one. He first came into conflict with Palpatine's war machine during the Clone Wars at the age of 6, when the Empire was still referred to as the Galactic Republic. Throughout the course of the film, Cassian's Machiavellian "the ends justify the means" philosophies paint a picture of a man that will fight to achieve peace at any cost. With all these ingredients in place, Andor has potential to further flesh out one of the more compelling and morally gray characters from Rogue One.

A recent report from Star Wars scooper Bespin Bulletin claims that filming for Andor has wrapped. Their sources claim that "various members of production having their own wrap parties and confirmed that filming had concluded." Check out their full report below:

After speaking with multiple sources I can confirm that Andor has finally wrapped.

Last week I checked in with my Pinewood Studios sources on the Andor production on August 18th and they were very much still busy filming which I first mentioned on my podcast, BOB The Podcast earlier this week. On August 20th I checked in once again to learn that multiple cast members had wrapped, including some that had been filming for several months, but did not get confirmation that the production was finished or that leading man Diego Luna had concluded filming. However over the weekend sources gave me the green light on Luna, referenced various members of production having their own wrap parties and confirmed that filming had concluded. I’ve even been fortunate enough to see some sets being taken down.

After a long grueling shoot, I firmly believe that filming for Andor is finally over.

how Andor expands on Rogue One Diego Luna

Andor sets itself apart from Disney+'s other Star Wars spinoff shows in that it was filmed on-location, rather than in the VR Volume set used for The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian and the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Because of the production's outdoor shoots, set leaks for Andor have been much more common than the other series as well. It's clear from these pictures that the production designers for the show are taking many of their aesthetic cues from the design of Rogue One, with many trooper variants and Imperial aesthetics returning making the jump from film to show.

Compared to other upcoming Star Wars TV shows, hype and interest in Andor has seemingly been tepid at best. This is despite Rogue One being a critical and commercial success for Lucasfilm. That said, Cassian is considered one of the better characters in the movie thanks to his moral ambiguity painting the Rebellion in a darker light. It's worth remembering The Bad Batch earned mixed reactions following its initial announcement, yet that show has more than justified its existence with arguably one of the strongest first seasons of Star Wars animation. The Bad Batch is proof that no story is inherently bad as long as it succeeds in execution; hopefully Andor took some notes along the way.
