Andor is set to start streaming on Disney+ in 2022, and could strengthen the Star Wars prequels by visiting the Senate. The show will see Diego Luna reprising his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story role in a series set 5 years before the events of the film, and promises to explore the early days of the Rebellion. Considering the era in which the film takes place, rumors abound as to which characters and locations may make an appearance - and with the planet Coruscant a likely possibility, Andor has the exciting potential to visit the Imperial Senate.

The galactic capital has been notably absent from other Star Wars films and shows, leaving many to wonder what happened to Coruscant after the prequels. While the then-Galactic Senate was considered by some to be a weak and irrelevant focal point of the prequels, it was one of the most important institutions on Coruscant and the means by which Palpatine became Chancellor and then Emperor. Importantly, though the Republic was turned into the Galactic Empire in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the Senate wasn't disbanded until Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, meaning it would be very much active during Andor.

A trip to the Imperial Senate in Andor could strengthen the prequels by using the return of the governing body as way to highlight just how much has changed since the Republic became the Empire. It could also help connect the high-society world of the prequels and the scrappy Rebellion seen in the original trilogy (especially if Andor delves into the darker side of the Rebellion), giving new relevance to the prequels' focus on governance and corruption. What's more, a detour to the Senate could shed light on Palpatine's actions as Emperor, further fleshing out his prequel-era scheming.

Sheev Palpatine performs the Proclamation of a New Order; the formation of the Galactic Empire to replace the Galactic Republic, announcing it in the Senate chamber in Revenge of the Sith

Star Wars' narrative focus largely left Coruscant when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda did in Revenge of the Sith, but many loose ends were left to be tied up. The role of senators was left unclear after the Republic became the Empire, and the Senate chamber itself was in disarray after Yoda's climactic battle with Palpatine. Andor could reveal whether the Senate has any power at all in the Empire, and could reinforce how important the institution was to the prequel era.

Something largely left out of both Lucas' original and prequel trilogies is the idea of rebellion within the government itself. Considering that Lucas' plan originally included Padmé Amidala creating the rebellion, spending time with senators in Andor could greatly strengthen this much-diminished prequel idea. As Genevieve O'Reilly is set to return as Mon Mothma and Jimmy Smits' return as Bail Organa is rumored, Cassian Andor could plausibly interact with a number of senators - and perhaps even sneak into the Senate itself thanks to them. To see Mothma, Organa, and more dissent against the Empire in a legal way, or be too fearful to do so, would definitely help the prequel Senate scenes feel more directly related to the original trilogy.

Finally, Andor has the opportunity to shed important light on Emperor Palpatine himself. By Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine has maneuvered himself into the most powerful position in the galaxy. However, as of that film, the Emperor is still shown presiding over the Senate. Despite a number of high-profile characters such as Obi-Wan rumored to be in Andor, it would be an internet-breaking surprise to see the Emperor himself. Regardless, even the absence of the Emperor in the Senate would allow Andor to give further depth to the prequels by showing just how little Palpatine cared about the facade of a democratic government. Of course, whether or not Cassian catches a glimpse of Palpatine, enters the Senate, or visits Coruscant at all, Andor is sure to be a world-building and exciting addition to Star Wars canon when it releases in 2022.
