Andor star, Diego Luna, recently confirmed that his new Star Wars television series will be the last time he stars as Cassian Andor. The latest entry in the long-running science-fiction fantasy franchise will focus on Cassian, a battle-hardened spy for the Rebel Alliance who is fiercely determined to dismantle the evil Galactic Empire. The new Disney+ show is set five years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, with season 1 primarily encompassing one year of Cassian's life and a confirmed 12-episode second season reportedly covering the remaining four years.

Luna first starred as Cassian in the Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as the leader of a Rebel group on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. At the time Rogue One premiered, many expected it would be Luna's lone appearance in the franchise, as Cassian (along with all the other main characters) died during the film's exciting finale. However, several years later, Luna is headlining the prequel series, causing some to wonder if he'd be game for another Star Wars return down the line.

In a recent interview with EW, Luna confirmed that his portrayal as the titular Rebel spy in the new Star Wars show, Andor, will be his last outing as the character. The actor called his upcoming journey as Cassian "beautiful" but says that "this is it," his time in the vast Star Wars universe is done. Read what Luna said below.

"For me, this is it. It's a beautiful journey now that I have 24 episodes, 24 shorter films, to tell the story of where Cassian comes from and how he got to be the man we met in Rogue One."

Diego Luna as Cassian Andor in a dark coat

Although a movie and a two-season television series may not seem like that much time for Luna as Cassian in the Star Wars franchise when compared to major stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, by the end of it all, Luna will have a combined time of approximately 26 hours as the character. This is quite substantial when looking at other Star Wars film stars, such as Daisy Ridley who portrayed Rey in only three films. Due to the sheer amount of time Luna dedicated to the character, as well as the breadth of the Cassian's life covered in both the film and the series, it is understandable that he would be done with the role.

Upon the conclusion of Andor, Cassian's story will likely be thoroughly explored as the series covers multiple years of the character's life. With the show featuring the final five years of his life just prior to the events of Rogue One, as well as flashbacks to Cassian's younger years, the series will cover nearly all of the hero's journey to becoming one of the Rebellion's most important fighters. With Andor earning positive reviews, hopefully the series sends Luna off on a high note.
