Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars #19

A new Star Wars link between Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin has been revealed, seeing the next steps of Luke's Jedi journey taking place where Anakin's ended as he began his transformation into the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Taking place after the events of Empire Strikes Back, Luke is determined to become a Jedi as he discovers a new world hoping to find the answers he seeks. However, it just so happens that the world is the very same one the Emperor sent Vader years ago, ordering him to kill a surviving Jedi just after the events of Revenge of the Sith, serving as Anakin's first true test as the armored Darth Vader.

This past story was a part of Marvel's 2017 Darth Vader run from writer Charles Soule and artist Giuseppe Camancoli, seeing the new Sith Lord tasked with creating his own red lightsaber. As the recently fallen Jedi learns from his new master Darth Sidious, red crystals are actually normal kyber crystals that have been made to bleed after a Sith fills it with their hate, pain, suffering, and rage. As such, Sidious sends Vader to eliminate surviving Jedi Master Kirak Infil'a on the river moon of Al'doleem to then take his lightsaber crystal as his own. While Vader was proven the victor wearing his new life-support armor, it wasn't without sustaining heavy damage in what was his first trial as a Sith apprentice.

Now, Star Wars #19 has been released which also comes from Soule with art by Marco Castiello. In it, Luke Skywalker is using the list of key Jedi sites he obtained from the Empire, eventually finding none other than the river moon of Al'doleem and lading near Mount Pasavaal, a secret Jedi monastery guarded by the Empire (where Vader fought Master Kirak years prior). Furthermore, Luke enters a state of meditation to increase his connection to the light side of the Force, hoping to gain the wisdom and strength needed to use a mind trick on a pair of Stormtroopers at the front gates. However, the visual of Luke's inner self meditating depicts him as a being a pure blue light, likely representing the light side of the Force. What makes this so dynamic is that it links to the more violent and dark Sith meditations Vader began engaging in shortly after his own trial on Mount Pasavaal.

Luke-Anakin-Trainig-Jedi-Sith-Comparison

This certainly looks to be an intentional connection created by Soule between his past and current Star Wars series, forming a powerful new throughline between the father and son's contrasting paths in the Force. In the current time period of Star Wars #19, Luke is actively developing his abilities as a Jedi at the very site where Vader would get the key component required for his sinister crimson blade, the forging of which saw Anakin strengthening his resolve and fully giving in to the dark side. While Luke's journey as a Jedi is continuing on the river moon, it's where Anakin's truly ended as Vader saw no hope for redemption, motivating him to begin his dark Sith meditations as he sought to grow his power in the dark side.

In any case, Luke recovers a valuable Holocron containing the teachings of none other than Jedi Master Yoda by the issue's end. Now, a new path has been revealed to Luke who had been struggling to see the way ahead in his journey after learning that Darth Vader was his father. However, just as Anakin was motivated to fully commit and follow the corrupt path to the dark side as Darth Vader on this secretly significant world, Luke Skywalker has likewise been given what he needs to continue onwards to becoming a Jedi Knight in the Star Wars galaxy.
