New Star Wars fan-art imagines Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. After the success of the original films, franchise creator George Lucas found a way to continue the story with the release of the prequels. The subsequent films tackled the origins of Darth Vader, starting when he was a young boy slave boy in Tatooine until he fell to the dark side mainly due to Emperor Palpatine's manipulations.

As critically panned and convoluted as the prequel trilogy was, public perception has mellowed out about it in recent years. Fans started to appreciate what Lucas was trying to accomplish with the films and despite not connecting the way the originals did, they still enrichened the Star Wars lore. It also helped that Disney and Lucasfilm have been more open in exploring that era with newer projects such as the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The latter will feature the return of both Ewan McGregor as the titular character and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

This is an exciting idea since not much is known about what happened to their relationship after their last duel in Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. Aside from Obi-Wan's solo adventures, there's also anticipation to seeing more of Christensen as Vader in the Disney+ show — something that has spawned several fan-content, including an illustration from BossLogic in celebration of Star Wars Day 2021. At this point, it's still unclear how Darth Vader will factor into the Obi-Wan Kenobi narrative. Since it's supposed to be a limited series, the show will have to tackle not just the much-anticipated reunion of Obi-Wan and his former Padawan, but also his other adventures as he's in exile in Tatooine. Lucasfilm purposefully has not revealed much about what he was up to during the years that he was in self-isolation; other than secretly keeping an eye on young Luke Skywalker, it's possible that he also found himself in various situations that moved his character forward independent of his connections to the Skywalkers.

Ever since Star Wars' renaissance following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, Darth Vader has been used in various projects both on the big and small screen. He's been featured in the final season of The Clone Wars, as well as, the anthology movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But Obi-Wan Kenobi will be the first time that Christensen will be back to reprise the role.
