Ahmed Best explains how his new Jedi character has a purple lightsaber in the game show Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. Best first made his name in the Star Wars universe by playing Jar-Jar Binks in all three prequel films, as well as additional shorts and video games. As many know, Jar-Jar Binks wasn't a very well-received character, which led to his role in later films being diminished. Aside from voicing various characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars through 2014, Best has stepped away from the Star Wars franchise for several years, though he will finally return with the release of Jedi Temple Challenge.

Debuting this week on June 3, Jedi Temple Challenge has been touted as a Star Wars-themed game show for children where contestants will play as Padawans engaging in various challenges. More than a few comparisons have already been drawn to Nickelodeon's Legends of the Hidden Temple. Best will serve as host, and he will play a new character named Master Kelleran Beq. He will also be joined by Mary Holand (Veep) as protocol droid AD-3, while The Clone Wars veteran Sam Witwer will voice the "dark side of the Force." Fans can watch Jedi Temple Challenge on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel, as well as the Star Wars Kids website.

Following fans' questions about Best's newest Star Wars character, Best took to social media to explain why Master Beq has a purple lightsaber. He referenced Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) alongside Beq as a character who knows "the technique that can fuse red and blue #kybercrystals to make the #purple #lightsaber." Best then went on to explain that "Those who wield #purple are reminded not all things are binary. There are many ways to interpret #theforce."

Lightsaber colors are very important for Star Wars fans. While the most common tend to be blue or (in the case of the Sith) red, there have been some notable standouts. Most recently, Rey (Daisy Ridley) crafted herself a yellow lightsaber at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerBest's explanation for his Jedi Temple Challenge character having a purple lightsaber is interesting and further develops Master Beq in a way that could almost feel excessive for a game show host. Still, it's fascinating to hear the backstory Best has created for Master Beq, and it'll be interesting to see what role he plays in Jedi Temple Challenge.

At the current moment, Jedi Temple Challenge is the only piece of new Star Wars content, though more is on the way. Season 2 of The Mandalorian will arrive on Disney+ this October, with more live-action shows to follow. Plus, a new movie is in the works with Taika Waititi. Until all that arrives, however, fans can tune into Jedi Temple Challenge and watch Best guide young Padawans to greatness.
