It seems like you can’t go anywhere these days without hearing about another Star Wars movie. The Star Wars universe has been around for over forty years and continues to grow with each spin-off and solo movie they put out.

From A New Hope to Solo: A Star Wars Story, fans have been introduced to countless characters over the years. Along with the characters, viewers have grown attached to the actors who play them.

Being a part of the biggest franchise of all time is a lot of pressure. Actors who take on a role in one of the intergalactic adventures are typically under a lot of scrutiny from fans and receive copious amounts of attention from the media.

It can be difficult to go out in public without being recognized. Being under that kind of microscope can cause a lot of stress, and some actors handle it differently than others.

There actors who have spent years in the Star Wars spotlight and there are fresh-faced newcomers just getting used to it. Some of them have positive reputations among fans, while others have been to known to be not-so-sweet.

It can be difficult for actors to maintain a certain image when they are part of such a huge aspect of popular culture.

Wondering who made which list? Here are the 14 Star Wars Actors Who Are Sweethearts (And 5 Who Aren’t).

Not Sweet: Alec Guinness

Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars A New Hope

Obi Wan seems like that last person fans would expect not to be sweet. Everyone loves his character. However, Alec Guinness has a reputation for not liking Star Wars despite being a major part of it.

According to his own memoir, he once made a child who was a huge fan of his cry by making him promise to never see Star Wars again. Fans never understood why an actor from the movies would ask that.

Later, it came out that he lied about the encounter, which didn’t make him look any better.

The boy didn’t really cry and said that Guinness was nice to him, but he really did make him promise to stop watching the movies.

Regardless of the outcome, that’s not a very sweet thing to ask of a child who loves Star Wars.

Sweet: Mark Hamill

Mark Hamill

The name Luke Skywalker is easily recognizable, even to people who aren’t Star Wars fans. The Jedi Master is played by Mark Hamill, who has the reputation as quite the sweetheart in real life.

He absolutely adores his fans and dedicates a lot of time to them. He gives young fans advice on being themselves and not being afraid to show off what they love.

The actor has also been known to surprise his fans and loves spending time with them.

Hamill also stands up for people who have been teased and harassed, like the young actor who played Anakin in The Phantom Menace. He thinks the way fans treated child actor Jake Lloyd was wrong.

It proves Hamill is on the Light Side of the Force in both the movies and in real life.

Sweet: Diego Luna

Diego Luna as Captain Cassian Andor in Rogue One A Star Wars Story Scarif

While Rogue One is a newer addition to the Star Wars universe, it’s already a movie fans that hold close to their hearts.

It received high praise from both critics and the general public. Diego Luna played Captain Cassian Andor and is known to be sweet in real life.

The actor received a lot of praise for his role because he kept his accent while filming. The Latino community was overjoyed to see a Mexican character on screen without his main characteristic being that he was Mexican.

They let the actor know this on Twitter and he admitted to getting emotional over their response.

He’s very aware that he is affecting fans in a deep and meaningful way and takes it seriously. A lot of actors wouldn’t take the time to let fans know how much their responses mean to them.

Sweet: Oscar Isaac

Since his first appearance as Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens, Oscar Isaac has become one of the most recognizable names in Hollywood.

Not only is he a talented actor, but he’s also a genuinely nice guy in real life.

It’s rare to hear a bad word said about the actor. Interviewers have called him things such as “charming” and someone who “plays well with others.”

He’s reportedly very down to earth and didn’t choose the acting career for the money or the fame. Isaac genuinely just enjoys what he’s doing.

He has also used his fame as a Star Wars actor to help others. He partnered up with the droid BB-8 to encourage fans to donate money to charity.

With his sweet nature, it seems like Isaac is stealing the hearts of fans both on and off the screen.

Not Sweet: Hayden Christensen

Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

Hayden Christensen has been out of the spotlight for a while, but he’s still a major part of the Star Wars universe. Since his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith, the actor has backed away from acting.

It’s no secret that he has complicated feelings about his Star Wars role, but he can’t escape the fact he was a major part of the franchise.

There have been multiple reports that he isn’t always sweet to his fans. At one point in Miami, he was so rude that he made a fan cry.

It’s understandable to be a little annoyed by his fans, but there’s no reason to be rude to someone genuinely excited to see him.

While he may not want to revisit his past, his fans are just excited for the chance to meet Anakin Skywalker.

Sweet: Daisy Ridley

Daisy Ridley has been adored by fans since her first appearance as Rey in The Force Awakens. Not only do people love her character, but they love how nice and caring she is in real life.

While the spotlight is often on her, she makes a point to uplift her co-stars as well, like when she praised Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega.

She wants all girls to feel good about themselves and uses her character Rey to help them feel hopeful and inspired.

She likes starring in movies that make a point to represent everyone and wants people to always feel included.

Much like Rey, she clearly walks with the Light Side of the Force.

Sweet: Gwendoline Christie

Gwendoline Christie is most well-known for her role as Brienne Game of Thrones, but in the past few years she has joined the Star Wars cast as Captain Phasma.

While her character is on the Dark Side, Christie is the exact opposite.

The actress is quite the role model for women. She likes to play characters that don’t quite fit in and don’t represent the conventional body type that women are used to seeing on their screens.

Christie wants to set the example that everyone should be represented and feel important.

As someone who was bullied when she was young, she thinks that it’s important to be sweet to everyone and spread the message of acceptance.

Sweet: Domhnall Gleeson

General Hux

Domhnall Gleeson is another fairly new addition to the Star Wars universe. He was first introduced as General Hux in The Force Awakens. Unlike his character, the actor is known to be a sweet person.

While a lot of actors bring high-profile dates to their movie premieres, Gleeson didn’t follow suit.

Instead of taking a date, he brought his own dad as his plus one. He’s not one to get caught up in the glitz and glam of Hollywood and has stayed close to his roots.

He likes his privacy so much that he seriously considered not signing on to do Star Wars. The actor is incredibly down to earth and just wants to be treated like a normal guy.

Not Sweet: Anthony Daniels

Anthony Daniels with C3PO

Anthony Daniels has been playing the droid C-3PO for decades. He is the only actor who has been in each of the major movies of the main Star Wars series.

However, despite his many performances in the franchise, he doesn’t have the greatest reputation.

Supposedly, he can be quite impolite to his co-stars. Kenny Baker, who plays R2D2, has accused him of being plain rude.

On top of that, Daniels has said some unsavory things about his cast mates, including making fun of Mark Hamill’s looks.

The actor even looks down on people who play droids differently than he did. Apparently, he cursed at Alan Tudyk who played a droid in Rogue One, simply because he didn’t have to climb into a big clunky suit like Daniels did for A New Hope.

He doesn’t sound nearly as polite as C-3PO.

Sweet: Adam Driver

Adam Driver frowning as Kylo Ren in Star Wars The Last Jedi

Adam Driver has received a lot of attention since he first appeared as Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. Though Kylo is a villain, Driver is incredibly sweet.

While he can barely go anywhere without being recognized, he hasn’t let it get to his head. He tries not to get annoyed with the copious amounts of attention he receives and acknowledges that he isn’t any more important than other people because he’s famous.

He is also a very generous person and started his own nonprofit called Arts In The Armed Forces.

He also once surprised a military family with a scholarship and even got a little emotional watching their reactions. The actor certainly has a knack for helping others.

Sweet: Donald Glover

Solo A Star Wars Story - Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian

Donald Glover was just added to the franchise in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He plays a young Lando Calrissian and fans cannot get enough of his performance. In real life, he’s incredibly sweet and loves his  fans.

A lot of fans have shared their experiences meeting Glover on websites like Reddit. One user said that he talked to him for at least half an hour and he was “one of the nicer dudes” he had ever met.

Another wrote that Glover is genuine with each fans he meets and is really down to earth.

He was also so happy to meet a young Girl Scout who used his song “Redbone” to sell cookies that he ended up buying enough boxes from her that she met her goal. He then shared the cookies with the audience of The Late Show.

Sweet: Natalie Portman

While Natalie Portman has purposefully distanced herself from the Star Wars franchise, her character Padmé was a major part of the prequels. Much like her character’s big heart, Portman also cares deeply for others.

The actress is heavily involved in charity work.

She works with WE, a nonprofit that helps develop communities in poverty stricken areas of the world. Portman even visited Kenya back in 2015 in order to help build a school for girls.

She’s always posting about different causes on her Instagram.

She also adores her husband and isn’t embarrassed to gush about him. They have an adorable love story and two children, showing that she has the sweetest personal life.

She dedicates her life to her family and helping others.

Not Sweet: Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

Samuel L. Jackson played the Jedi Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels. The actor is known for playing tough and sarcastic characters, so it should come as no surprise he can be a little rude and intense even in his personal life.

There have been some reports of fan encounters that weren’t sweet.

While fans don’t always approach their favorite actors in the best way, the actors sometimes don’t respond in a positive manner, either.

Supposedly, a fan tweeted that Jackson was rude to him and the actor responded sarcastically and cursed at him.

A similar situation happened another time. A fan apparently asked the actor for a photo and Jackson refused because the fan didn’t say “please.” Jackson once again responded pretty sarcastically to him on Twitter.

At least they came away with some funny stories.

 Sweet: Felicity Jones

Jyn Erso

While Felicity Jones has only been in one Star Wars movie, she certainly gave memorable performance. She played Jyn Erso in Rogue One. It has been said that the actress is really sweet in real life.

She is extremely down to earth and hasn’t allowed fame to change her.

Unlike a lot of actors, Jones doesn’t enjoy a lot of attention. She’s a little shy and is apparently uncomfortable with interviews. Jones is also a self-admitted romantic and loves to be a part of sweet movies.

Not only is she sweet, but she’s also generous.

The actress also auctioned off some Rogue One merchandise in order to raise money for charity as part of the “Force For Change” initiative.

Sweet: Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke as Qi'ra at the end of Solo A Star Wars Story

Emilia Clarke has taken the entertainment industry by storm with her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones. She’s now added Star Wars to her list of major franchises with her performance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The actress is extremely sweet in real life and has even been labeled as the “most delightful person on the planet” by Elle Australia.

She speaks up for women’s rights and works to combat sexism, proving that she’s a role model for young women and tries to make the world a better place.

She also teamed up with Omaze in order to help raise money for the Royal College of Nursing Foundation, which provides support to aspiring nurses and health care assistants.

 Sweet: Kelly Marie Tran

Kelly Marie Tran has been in the news lately for being harassed by fans who didn’t like her character Rose in The Last Jedi. It got so bad the actress deleted her Instagram.

She’s such a sweetheart in real life that it’s hard to believe she receives so much hate.

Her fans have rallied around her because they know how great of a person she is. Twitter has been bombarded by sweet fans, fellow celebrity, and co-stars defending the star.

John Boyega, who plays Finn, even wrote a few tweets about the situation.

She’s so sweet that when she overheard fans talking about the movie, she walked over and introduced herself.

Only the most genuine person would receive this much love and support and go out of their way to make fans happy.

Not Sweet: Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Han Solo is one of the most popular characters in Star Wars. The character wouldn’t be the same if anyone but Harrison Ford played him in the original movie. He’s become a pop-culture icon.

However, Ford has been known to be a bit rude. A photographer once approached the actor to take the photos that he was scheduled to take, and the actor was quite condescending to him, insisting that he wouldn’t take the scheduled photos.

On top of that, while he admits his fans are human beings, Ford also refers to them as “customers.”

His relationship with Carrie Fisher also had some moments that weren’t so sweet. In private, they would hook up, but he would barely speak to her and even ignore her in public.

Ford, of course, has his great moments, but he can be more sour than sweet.

 Sweet: Peter Mayhew

Peter Mayhew may not have the most recognizable face out of all of the Star Wars actors, but he’s one of the most important cast members. He plays the famous Wookie Chewbacca in five of the Star Wars movies.

Mayhew is known for being sweet as well as generous in real life.

He recently helped raise money for underprivileged children in Venezuela. He heard about the sad situation in the South American country and wanted to help in any way he could.

The actor also once invited the family of a Star Wars fan who had passed away to his personal home. While Chewbacca comes off as fierce and intimidating, he also has a big heart, much like the actor who plays him.

Sweet: John Boyega

Finn is arguably one of the sweetest characters in the Star Wars universe. He’ll do anything to protect his friends and fights fiercely for good. John Boyega is a lot like his character in real life, as he's both sweet and protective.

Just like Finn jumps to defend Rey, Boyega jumped to defend his co-star Kelly Marie Tran from online harassment.

He encourages everyone to be kind and put themselves in the perspective of others before they send someone hate.

He’s incredibly sweet to his parents and is humble about where he came from.

He is also just a huge geek about Star Wars and isn’t afraid to show it. The actor understandably freaked out when he saw the Millenium Falcon for the first time. It’s almost too sweet to handle.

Sweet: Carrie Fisher

PRINCESS LEIA

Carrie Fisher affected many lives with her performance as Princess Leia. She inspired a lot of people throughout her life and has become a major cultural icon.

The actress was incredibly sweet and dedicated her life to helping others.

While she struggled with addiction, depression, and other issues, she didn’t let it slow her down or dim her vibrant personality.

The Guardian writer Hadley Freeman said that she’s “the person everyone would want to sit next to at a wedding.”

She was a huge mental health advocate and was very outspoken about her own bipolar disorder, helping many fans who suffer from similar issues.

She told people not to be ashamed of their mental illness and encouraged them to reach out for help.

The galaxy is a bit darker without Fisher around, but her memory resonates with a lot of fans.
