Zorri Bliss in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker image shows new character Zorii Bliss with what could be part of C-3PO's head. Zorii, played by Keri Russell, is one of the many fresh faces Star Wars 9 is introducing to the Skywalker saga. Like so much else about the film, the full extent of her role remains shrouded in secrecy. However, it has been confirmed Zorii is an old friend of Poe Dameron's, which may explain how she factors into the plot. With the Resistance heroes on a mission desperate for any help they can find, Poe may reach out to Zorii for aid.

Another character whose part in The Rise of Skywalker is mysterious is none other than C-3PO, the iconic protocol droid who's been part of the franchise from the very beginning. While Threepio had extremely limited screen time in the first two installments of the sequel trilogy, all signs are pointing to an expanded role for the droid in the grand finale. As it turns out, C-3PO and Zorii's paths might be connected - if the latest still image from the movie is any indication.

As part of their fall/winter movie preview, EW shared a new Star Wars 9 photo featuring Zorri. In her hand is a small golden item. EW describes it as "an unmarked coin or data storage device of some kind." Check out the image in the space below:

As for what's in Zorii's hand, Star Wars News Net and the Around the Galaxy podcast speculate it could be part of the back of C-3PO's head. The main evidence supporting this is the fact a feature on the C-3PO Rise of Skywalker action figure released during Triple Force Friday is the ability to remove a back panel from the droid's head, revealing his innards. Whatever Zorii is holding looks like it'd be able to fit inside Threepio, possibly reprogramming him (perhaps this is what leads to the red eyes). It's definitely a sound theory, particularly when one considers droidsmith Babu Frik has an important role to play in all of this. When Babu made his debut on the Force Friday livestream, the Star Wars 9 actors were very hesitant to talk about him, so it wouldn't be out of the question if Babu was tasked with reprogramming C-3PO for a very specific part of the mission.

It'll be interesting to see how Zorii fits into the narrative. Since she has a background with Poe, one might assume she's definitely aligned with the Resistance, but that isn't necessarily the case. In The Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo paid a visit to his old buddy Lando Calrissian and was betrayed. It's possible Zorii will have a similar arc. She seems to be the latest in the ever-growing line of Star Wars scoundrels and could have her own motives as she looks to stay ahead in the galaxy. Smartly, the Rise of Skywalker marketing campaign isn't revealing too much about her, which could keep audiences on their toes when the film finally arrives.
