The latest Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer is officially released online. As difficult as this may be to believe, the film is only a couple of months away from hitting theaters, ending the franchise's sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga overall. In what has become typical business practice for Lucasfilm, they've put together another super-secretive marketing campaign for their latest blockbuster, revealing next-to-nothing about the movie's plot. Disney even borrowed a couple of tricks from the Avengers: Endgame playbook, holding off the Star Wars 9 title reveal until Celebration Chicago in April.

Undoubtedly, the studio will continue to play things close to the chest as fans fervently count down the days remaining until the December premiere. However, with this now being the homestretch as far as advertising is concerned, Lucasfilm does need to start peeling back the curtain a bit more than they already have. Recently, the Triple Force Friday event marked the grand unveiling of the first wave of tie-in products, and an Empire cover story revealed fresh images and details. But what people really want to see is new footage, and now the next preview is available.

Today, Lucasfilm released the final Rise of Skywalker trailer, as well as a new poster. You can see them for yourself in the space below:

While this is the most extensive look at The Rise of Skywalker released to date, it more or less follows the same basic formula of the two trailers that preceded it, keeping actual plot details down to a minimum. Instead, it consists primarily of intentionally vague/generic statements from the trilogy's main four characters, as well as several out-of-context sequences and shots that tease the epic action fans have come to expect. The nature of the Resistance's mission remains unknown, as does Emperor Palpatine's master plan. Once again, the returning villain is shrouded in mystery, though his physical appearance is finally teased in one shot towards the end. Unsurprisingly, Lucasfilm is being very careful with how they're handling Palpatine at this stage, and for good reason. There are so many other aspects about Star Wars 9 that can get viewers excited, there's no real need to spill all the beans on Palpatine now.

It also goes without saying the Star Wars 9 trailer is a highly emotional affair, brilliantly using the franchise's iconic music and stunning imagery to excellent effect. Disney is really hammering home this is the definitive end of the Skywalker saga, and just like Endgame before it, there's bound to be several moments that pull at the heartstrings in J.J. Abrams' latest. Already one of the most talked-about moments of the trailer is C-3PO's tearful farewell to his friends, showing that the filmmakers aren't pulling any punches knowing this is it. After the box office stumble that was Solo, Star Wars is back in a huge way, and The Rise of Skywalker is poised to be the cinematic event of the holiday season.
