Mark Hamill trolls fans with a set photo in light of the continued wait for the first Star Wars: Episode IX trailer. Directed by J.J. Abrams, who returns to the franchise after he kicked-off the sequel trilogy with 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the film will end the Skywalker saga.

Not much is known regarding the plot for Episode IX, especially with the way things were left off in Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Aside from returning characters such as Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac), there's also a slew of new actors boarding the space opera in Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, and Dominic Monaghan - all of which have their respective characters tightly under wraps. Matt Smith is apparently not in the cast list, however, contrary to reports that he'd been recruited. Meanwhile, legacy characters such as Leia are also confirmed to appear despite Carrie Fisher's untimely death in 2017, thanks to unused The Force Awakens footage, while Hamill's Luke is also expected, although the Jedi Master met his demise in Episode VIII. Considering this, the veteran actor is regularly questioned about when the much-anticipated trailer for Episode IX will drop, and as usual, he's found a hilarious way to provide an answer.

Taking it to his official Twitter account, Hamill posted an image of himself on the set beside his designated trailer. In the caption, he wrote, "People keep asking me over & over & over again- "When will they release the #EpisodeIX trailer?" A) I don't know. B) Until they do, just be satisfied with this exclusive look at my own personal #StarWars trailer." The actor also shared that this image was taken on the set of The Last Jedi and not the still-untitled threequel. Check out the photo below:

Considering Luke's current status in the Star Wars universe, many are excited to see how Abrams will utilize him in Episode IX. Similar to the way Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) lingered following his death in the original trilogy and even Master Yoda in The Last Jedi, the same could be done for the recently-deceased Jedi Master. However, given that fans have already seen the normal shadowing a Force Ghost does to his mentee, it's curious how the filmmaker will put a twist on this particular trope.

So far, no preview for Star Wars: Episode IX has been released except for a brand new photo of Rey, Finn, and Poe on the set Abrams shared to commemorate production wrapping back in February. And with just nine months to go before the trilogy capper debuts all over the globe, fans are understandably already clamoring for footage. The Force Awakens dropped its first teaser more than a year before its roll out. However, it's possible that the upcoming film will follow the marketing pattern for The Last Jedi, which launched its teaser in April 2017 - barely eight months before its release. With an Episode IX panel for Star Wars Celebration already confirmed, there's a good chance that Disney and Lucasfilm will opt to drop the first-look there alongside the confirmation of the title, similar to the two-in-one reveal with Avengers: Endgame.
