Star Wars star John Boyega has continued to play up to fans eager for Finn and Poe to get together in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Boyega debuted as the former stormtrooper back in the J.J. Abrams-directed offering, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Previously known as FN-2187, the character abandoned his role following a brutal village massacre. Joining forces with Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), he was redesignated Finn by the esteemed fighter pilot and ultimately aligned with the Resistance. Both actors returned as their respective characters for Rian Johnson's highly-divisive sequel, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. They shared minimal screentime, though - with each of them undertaking separate missions for the majority of the film's runtime.
The third installment will see Abrams return to close out the trilogy and definitively conclude The Skywalker Saga. Abrams also co-wrote the script alongside Chris Terrio (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Though the plot details remain firmly under wraps, the film will seemingly see the return of Emperor Palpatine and an epic clash between Rey and Kylo Ren that reportedly took six days to film. The trailers and various set photos also revealed that the group of heroes will remain largely together this time around, as they visit new planets and deal with the looming threat of a more prominent appearance from the Knights of Ren.
As passionate fanbases are increasingly want to do, Star Wars fans have firmly attached themselves in support of various dynamics and potential relationships between characters. By far one of the most vocal is the group that longs to see Finn and Poe settle down on a moisture farm somewhere. One such fan expressed such thoughts when sharing a poster image on Twitter. Though Rey (Daisy Ridley) takes center stage in the image, both Finn and Poe are present and stand stoically in the wake of the once again fledgling and not-quite-the-last Jedi. The fan posits, however, that they are both secretly holding hands out of view. Having got wind of the post, Boyega played up to the notion and jokingly implied that it was true, exclaiming, "Damn. How'd you know?" Check out the full post below:
Reaction to the post will no doubt vary between factions. For every fan wanting to see Poe and Finn together, there are those that believe Finn and Rose Tico are destined. Despite the fact she has been largely removed from marketing material, Kelly Marie Tran will be a part of the film. The actress was recently singled out by Abrams as the casting he was most thankful to Johnson for. Each of the above will be joined by Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren. Alongside them, Mark Hamill will return as a Force Ghost, Billy Dee Williams will make his long-overdue return as Lando Calrissian, and Carrie Fisher's Leia will feature in a beautiful way, despite passing away prior to filming. They will be joined by such newcomers as Keri Russell as Zorri Bliss, an old friend of Poe's, and Dominic Monaghan as a still-mysterious character.
Driver's character has been at the center of his own passionate ship, with fans divided whether or not he can be redeemed enough to solidify the established bond with Rey. Fans will no doubt have their own thoughts regarding the post and the potential relationship between Finn and Poe. Whatever the case, Boyega is certainly having fun with it. Which romantic endgames will ultimately come to fruition and which are destined to remain the stuff off fan-fiction will become clear when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker finally hits theaters.
