More rumors for Star Wars: The Last Jedi cover specifics about returning hero Poe Dameron and Laura Dern's new mystery character. For all the attention Rey's training with Luke Skywalker has received, it's easy to forget that a highly contentious war between the Resistance and First Order is ongoing - a storyline that proves to be just as compelling as Rey furthering her Force abilities. This aspect of the film has made plenty of headlines recently, including teases of a large-scale battle set on the world of Crete and Finn's undercover mission. The main objectives of both sides are largely unknown, but there fortunately does not appear to be a planet-destroying weapon this time around.

As one of the best pilots in the galaxy, Poe Dameron is obviously going to factor in heavily into the conflict, and he apparently is going to have a thorn in his side by way of Dern. Some of the earliest Star Wars 8 rumors detailed their potential rivalry, setting the stage for a fascinating dynamic within the Resistance. Now, a new report reveals more information about these two characters, including costumes and ship upgrades.

According to Making Star Wars, Dern is playing someone named Admiral Holdo in The Last Jedi. Her rather fancy get-up was previously mentioned in late 2016, and audiences now have a better idea of what to expect. Holdo is described as the "antithesis of Leia's new general look," as she sports a regal gown, a cape, "metallic braces" on her wrists, and a pink hairdo. It's noted the character's appearance resembles something one would see in the prequels, so it's a clearcut deviation from the more scrappy and down to Earth aesthetic viewers associate with the Rebellion and the Resistance. Though Holdo is called Poe's "nemesis," she is aligned with the Resistance and brings new vehicles to the cause in order to fight against Supreme Leader Snoke's Mega Destroyer. That said, the protagonists are allegedly "divided" due to Holdo's involvement, playing in line with the belief she's a political opponent of Leia's.

In Episode VIII, Poe is going to be a fleet leader, guiding portions of the Resistance throughout the galaxy. His trademark black X-wing has received some special modifications that make it fly faster, meaning he could do even more damage to TIE fighters than he did in The Force Awakens. Seeing the hotshot pilot do his thing in a space battle will be fun, but Poe won't be accompanied by his trusty friend BB-8. The adorable soccer ball is going to spend most of his screen time with Finn and Kelly Marie Tran's character while the former stormtrooper embarks on his assignment. Dameron conceivably could use one of the Resistance's more typical BB droids in any dogfight. These robots are described as "rusty and old," coming across as "steam punk" in their look. Poe did mention BB-8 was one of a kind, so he apparently wasn't just saying that out of fondness.

Hopefully both Holdo and Poe will be featured in the fast-approaching first trailer for The Last Jedi, set to debut at this week's Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. Indications are the preview will be more of a full trailer than a shorter teaser, so there could be a lot of juicy footage for fans to fawn over. Everybody wants to hear Luke speak and get involved with the action, but learning more more about the Resistance's struggle against the First Order should be highly intriguing and give moviegoers some jaw-dropping set pieces to look forward to.
