New rumors revolving around Star Wars: The Last Jedi suggest that Luke Skywalker is hiding something rather important in the necklace that he wears in the film. The Last Jedi teaser trailer has inspired much fan guesswork, but it's not as though there was a shortage of rumors surrounding the movie before then. So far, unconfirmed reports about everything from Supreme Leader Snoke's appearance to the alien creatures that appear in The Last Jedi, have found their way online.

Luke's (Mark Hamill) spoken words in The Last Jedi teaser have invited the most speculation, leaving many fans to wonder why Luke has lost faith in the Jedi Order. Now, according to the latest report from The Last Jedi rumor mill, Luke is keeping something of the Sith relic, (literally) close to his heart.

Making Star Wars, referencing earlier reports that Luke Skywalker had kept "pieces of Darth Vader's lightsaber" in The Last Jedi, is now claiming that Luke wears necklace with a "red crystal protruding from the bottom of it" in the film. MSW's source didn't specify whether or not this would merely be a piece of additional lore or if it would actually factor into the movie's narrative, but the site speculates that it could have significant ramifications on the events of Episode 8:

If Luke Skywalker has the last Darth Vader Kyber crystal, someone like Kylo Ren would really want it. I don’t know why Luke Skywalker doesn’t just destroy it. But he would clearly see that someone as into symbolism as Kylo Ren would be even more of a monster if he possessed it. If it is a story element, will Kylo get it back and stabilize his saber with the power source of his Grandfather’s lightsaber? It doesn’t sound like Kylo is getting it without getting better of Luke Skywalker first though.

Star Wars The Last Jedi teaser trailer - Luke on Ahch-To

Making Star Wars is responsible for previously-reported rumors that touch upon matters like the bird-like creatures of Ach-To and Supreme Leader Snoke's new look. The site also suggested that Star Wars 8 will feature more Force visions, and previously hit the mark with several rumors about The Force AwakensEven without that reputability however, there's plenty to vouch for this new information.

Kyber crystals have been part of Star Wars lore for years; but since the original Extended Universe was rendered non-canon, Lucasfilm have steadily been re-introducing fans to them on the big and small screens. They've appeared in Star Wars Rebelsbut were most prevalent in Rogue One at the holy city of Jeddha, and one was notably worn on a necklace by Jyn Erso. It's believed that Episode 8 will dive deeper into the lore of the Force than any other film in the saga, and Luke's new jewellery could allow for some exposition concerning Kyber crystals during his training with Rey.

However, Luke's ominous first words have led many to suspect that he's actually turned to the Dark Side, with actor Mark Hamill claiming that "it's possible". The Force Awakens appeared to show some form of connection between Kylo Ren and Darth Vader through the former's scorched helmet. If Luke is in fact wearing his father's Kyber crystal, it could suggest a dark turn for the once-infallible Luke Skywalker.
