Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases on home video next week and while Disney and Lucasfilm are sharing snippets of special features and deleted scenes to promote the Digital HD version and Blu-ray Combo Pack fans are helping draw attention to the mega-popular film as well, this time without even using a meme of Kylo Ren.
From a bonus clip of Maz Kanata to deleted scene images and video of Kylo Ren stepping onto the Millennium Falcon, who would have thought one of the most fun look-backs on the return of the Star Wars saga would be in a Top Gun parody featuring the visual spectacle of X-Wings, Tie Fighters, and the Falcon doing what they do best with lasers and trenches.
The above video up top comes from Vimeo user KillCard and features the aerial battles of The Force Awakens put together in a sizzle reel to the classic tune of Kenny Loggins's "Danger Zone" - a song put together specifically for Tony Scott's 1986 hit Top Gun featuring Tom Cruise. Like every other recognizable film from the '80s, development is currently underway for a followup/revival of Top Gun from producer Jerry Bruckheimer with the plan to bring back Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and Val Kilmer's Tom "Iceman" Kazanski as veteran pilots in a sequel that will avoid using CGI jets and explore the modern military's drone program. Here's a flashback:
As for Star Wars, the next live-action film in the now-annualized schedule - Rogue One - debuts this December launching the Anthology series of features for Lucasfilm which will explore different eras and lore of the canonical Star Wars universe outside of the main episodic saga. As for the followup to Star Wars 8, director Rian Johnson is currently shooting Episode VIII in the UK for release next December.
The film is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Lawrence Kasdan & J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt.
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is coming home on Digital HD April 1 and Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on April 5.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
