Star Wars 7 Promo Images & Posters; Soundtrack Arrives In December

Today, at the time of writing this, is "Force Friday": a day where tie-in merchandise for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now officially available for purchasing. The release of toys, action figures, and more for director J.J. Abrams' live-action Star Wars movie (the seventh installment in the franchise overall) has been accompanied by the arrival of several new pieces of promotional art, images, and posters for the movie.

However, one Force Awakens-related item that will not hit the marketplace today is the film's soundtrack by the legendary John Williams. The soundtrack isn't finished yet of course, though there's a fair chance that the titles of Williams' compositions for the movie will shed a little too much light on the film's plot beats for Disney/Lucasfilm's tastes. Hence, in order to keep a lid on certain secrets from Abrams' Star Wars flick for as long as possible, the Force Awakens soundtrack won't be made available until the same day that the motion picture hits theaters.

Williams' Force Awakens score, like his work on previous Star Wars film sequels, is expected to blend original material with famous leitmotifs and themes that he originally devised for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, back in the late 1970s. You can pre-order the soundtrack over at the Disney Music Emporium website, though the official description of the music (see below) is as vague as one might expect:

Announcing the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Soundtrack. Lucasfilm and visionary director J.J. Abrams join forces to take you back again to a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars returns to the big screen with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Make sure to experience the soundtrack by legendary, five-time Academy Award® winning composer, John Williams. Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie and soundtrack release 12/18/15.

The following Force Awakens promotional images and posters - which are either from the Topps' Star Wars Card Trader app (via CBM) or being handed out to those who're shopping for Star Wars goodies on "Force Friday" (via The - highlight the new characters from Abrams' Star Wars movie (be they hero or villain), but do include one old friend: Chewbacca, as once again played by Peter Mayhew. Much like the Force Awakens trailer footage released to date, these images appears to be baed around scenes and scenarios (presumably) take place during the movie's first act or so.

The Force Awakens protagonists included here (for those still working on getting all their names down) include the Jakku scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley), renegade stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega), Resistance X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and his droid BB-8. Playing for the opposing team (read: The First Order) are the legions of stormtroopers, along with the Dark Force user Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the chrome-armored Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie).
