Gia Sandhu is confirmed to play Spock’s fiancée T’Pring in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The early voyages of the Starship Enterprise are coming to Paramount+ in the streamer’s newest Star Trek show. Anson Mount heads up the cast as pre-Kirk Enterprise captain Pike, alongside Ethan Peck as famed Vulcan science officer Spock.

Of course this is not the first time Mount and Peck have shared the screen as Pike and Spock in a Paramount+ show. The pair indeed first appeared on Star Trek: Discovery season 2 before receiving their own command on Strange New Worlds. Along with Pike and Spock, the new show will feature familiar Star Trek: TOS characters Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Christine Chapel (Jess Bush). And of course Captain James T. Kirk will also appear at some point down the road, with Paul Wesley playing what is promised to be a “different” version of the iconic Star Trek character.

Now another piece of casting has been confirmed for Strange New Worlds and this character is also a hold-over from Star Trek: TOS. As reported by Deadline, Spock’s fiancée T’Pring will appear, with Sandhu taking on the role. Indeed fans already caught a glimpse of Sandhu as T’Pring in a recently released Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1 trailer, where she could be seen sharing intimate moments with Spock.

Spock TPring Kiss Strange New Worlds

Old school Star Trek fans remember T'Pring as the Vulcan who is revealed to be a Pon farr-ridden Spock’s betrothed in the TOS season 2 kickoff episode "Amok Time." Unfortunately complications ensue when T’Pring reveals that she does not wish to marry Spock, a turn of events that thanks to some logical maneuvering by T’Pring leads to Spock and Kirk battling to the death. It’s McCoy who finally saves the day by injecting Kirk with a neuro-paralyzer, tricking Spock into thinking his captain is already dead.

The arrival of T’Pring in Strange New Worlds unfortunately – and quite predictably - creates issues with Star Trek canon. In the previously-mentioned “Amok Time” episode, Spock says that though he is bonded with T’Pring, he hasn’t actually seen her since they were children. Now Strange New Worlds is apparently retconning that particular bit of Trek lore by having T’Pring and Spock encounter each other as adults, years prior to the events of “Amok Time.” Of course it’s impossible to ever say what timeline one is actually experiencing with Star Trek, given how many divergent branches of reality have been introduced during the course of the franchise. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will no doubt have some good explanation for overturning canon when Spock and T’Pring share the screen. The show is set to debut on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022.
