Here are all the Star Trek TV shows coming after Star Trek: Picard. CBS has successfully revived the Star Trek franchise on the small screen, using live-action shows and shorts to draw subscribers to their All Access streaming service. There have currently been two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, and Patrick Stewart has reprized the popular role of Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Picard.

Back in June 2018, Alex Kurtzman signed a five-year deal with CBS that put him in charge of overseeing the expansion of the Star Trek universe. CBS is being relatively secretive about many of these projects, but the hope is that they will be just as popular as Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Although Kurtzman is wary of doing too many shows, he's pointed out that nobody ever seems to tire of the sheer range of Marvel movies and TV series; in his view, the key is making sure that every series is unique and distinctive.

Naturally, production and release schedules may slip a little due to the Coronavirus crisis. Still, here's every Star Trek TV show that's known to be in the works right now.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

CBS is developing an animated Star Trek adult comedy, entitled Star Trek: Lower Decks. It comes from the mind of comedy writer Mike McMahan, a Star Trek superfan and an alum of the popular adult animated comedy Rick & Morty. The show is reportedly designed to fit neatly into Star Trek canon, simply because it focuses on characters who have previously only been seen in the background. To date, CBS has given no idea of a release date, simply confirming it will premiere sometime after Star Trek: Picard has been completed. This could well be the next Star Trek series on the small screen.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3

Star Trek: Discovery started out as something of a prequel series, set before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. The dramatic end of season 2 saw the USS Discovery blasted into the far future, however, and it looks as though the ship has arrived in the dying days of the Federation. Unfortunately production has been delayed due to Coronavirus, meaning there may be a wait before Star Trek: Discovery season 3.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2

Star Trek Picard Episode 7 Soji

CBS renewed Star Trek: Picard for season 2 ahead of its premiere, and that has proven to be a wise decision. Patrick Stewart's iconic character has been used as a tool to put the very essence of the Federation under the microscope, with the former Starfleet admiral challenging the Federation over their synthetic ban, haunted by the mistakes of the past.

Star Trek: Section 31

Star Trek: Discovery featured Section 31, the Federation's covert - and thoroughly amoral - black ops unit. Although this element proved divisive among the fanbase, CBS signed off on a spinoff series starring Michelle Yeoh's Philippa Georgiou. According to Kurtzman, the plan was to begin production of Star Trek: Section 31 once Discovery season 3 had wrapped. It's safe to assume that this, too, has been delayed.

Star Trek Nickelodeon Animation

Nickelodeon has confirmed that they're working with Kurtzman on an animated Star Trek series aimed at a younger demographic. According to Nickelodeon, this will be centered upon a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for "adventure, meaning and salvation."

Star Trek Academy

There have long been reports of a live-action Starfleet Academy series, headed by showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Marvel's Runaways). This is expected to be aimed at a younger crowd of Star Trek fans, and is expected to deal with the pressures of being a teenager in Starfleet. This is presumably one of two more live-action shows confirmed by Kurtzman back in January. Nothing is known about the second of these.
