A new Star Trek video game, titled Star Trek: Resurgence, is coming soon and IDW Publishing is getting fans excited by releasing a prequel comic. The forthcoming game, to be published by Dramatic Labs, follows the crew of the USS Resolute, who find themselves thrust into the middle of an interstellar conflict, one that threatens the Federation itself. The first issue of the five part miniseries arrives in stores and on digital this November.

First announced late last year, Star Trek: Resurgence is the latest in a long line of Star Trek video games. The first Star Trek games first appeared in the 1980s, and have evolved with the medium. A variety of Trek games, across many genres, have been released, ranging from first-person shooters to bridge simulators. Resurgence will be more of a role-playing game, one where the players’ choices drive the game’s action and story. Dramatic Labs revealed Resurgence takes place in the late 24th century, beginning roughly a year after Nemesis, the final Star Trek: The Next Generation film. Earlier this year, Dramatic Labs released character breakdowns for the game, providing fans with a first look at these new Starfleet heroes; the publisher also revealed that no less than Spock himself will be appearing in the game, voiced by a Leonard Nimoy sound-alike. Now, IDW is releasing a special prequel comic that will whet the whistle of fans eager to learn more.

Details about the new comic appeared on TrekCore, including a look at the covers for the first two issues, shared below. While the comic will feature original characters from the forthcoming game, the post also revealed that Doctor Leah Brahms, one of the designers of the Enterprise, will be in the comic, and is central to the plot. The comic sees Doctor Brahms testing a new method of warp drive, one that could revolutionize space travel, when she goes missing near the Talarian border. It then falls on the crew of the Resolute to rescue her–an event that sets the stage for Resurgence. The miniseries will be written by Andrew Grant and Dan Martin and illustrated by Josh Hood.
