The second half of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 has yet to premiere on Paramount+, but stars Brett Gray and Ella Purnell are already anticipating the season 1 finale. The first 10 episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy streamed in late 2021 and early 2022 on Paramount+, followed by the animated series being broadcast on Nickelodeon. Among the famed actors joining Gray and Purnell in Star Trek: Prodigy's voice cast in season 1.5 are John Noble, Jason Mantzoukas, Jameela Jamil, Jason Alexander, and Daveed Diggs. Kate Mulgrew, meanwhile, plays a dual role as Hologram Janeway and Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 1.5 picks up from the midseason finale cliffhanger. Dal, Gwyn, and their ragtag teenage alien crew finally defeated and escaped the evil Diviner (John Noble) and they intend to rendezvous with Starfleet. But little do they know that the Diviner hid a terrible weapon aboard the USS Protostar that will destroy Starfleet. Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Janeway has arrived in the Delta Quadrant aboard the USS Dauntless to search for the Protostar and the missing Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran). Admiral Janeway is unaware that Chakotay's experimental starship is now under the control of a group of alien kids.

In Screen Rant's interview with Brett Gray and Ella Purnell at the Star Trek: Prodigy season 1.5 junket during New York Comic Con, we asked the actors about what they're most excited for audiences to see. While remaining spoiler-free, Purnell and Gray didn't hesitate to share their enthusiasm for Star Trek: Prodigy's "epic" season 1 finale:

Screen Rant: Do you guys have a favorite moment or something you just can't wait for everyone to see in the next batch of episodes?

Ella Purnell: I have a lot.

Brett Gray: Me too.

Ella Purnell: I mean, the season finale is so intense. And it answers some of the questions but actually raises more questions which, you know, any good finale will do. There's so many moments. It's hard to say. But the finale takes the cake for me.

Brett Gray: Yeah, the finale is pretty epic. (laughs)

Star Trek: Prodigy Won Over Kids And Adult Audiences

Star Trek: Prodigy has already accomplished its mission to introduce Star Trek to a brand-new generation of younger fans. At NYCC, executive producer Rod Roddenberry vocalized the most common reaction to Prodigy, citing that at first, he was hesitant to watch it because it was a "kids' show." But Roddenberry was quickly won over by the stunning CGI animation, excellent voice acting, and the show's intriguing writing that holds firm to the values and themes of Star Trek. Indeed, Star Trek: Prodigy has quickly established itself as one of the best of the current crop of Star Trek series on Paramount+. This is thanks to the writing team led by series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman and Aaron Waltke, director Ben Hibon and the animation team, and the fantastic cast led by Kate Mulgrew, Brett Gray, and Ella Purnell.

There's certainly a lot to look forward to before Star Trek: Prodigy's season 1 finale. The show's cast and creators teased appearances by Romulans, Klingons, and the Borg at NYCC. In addition, Prodigy season 1.5 will bring back Star Trek: The Next Generation legacy characters The Outrageous Okona (Billy Campbell) and Admiral Edward Jellico (Ronny Cox), who will be Vice Admiral Janeway's Starfleet foil. There are bound to be even more surprises and thrills as Star Trek: Prodigy warps towards the conclusion of its acclaimed season 1.
