Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas has confirmed a key detail about Worf’s upcoming appearance in the show’s final season 3. Star Trek: Picard is currently at the midway point of season 2, in which Admiral Picard and his make-shift crew have been transported to an alternate timeline by the god-like alien and Picard’s long time nemesis, Q. The Star Trek: Picard season 2 finale is set to hit screens on May 5, and will be followed up by the final season 3 in 2023, which has already wrapped filming.

While audiences still have a long time to wait before Star Trek: Picard season 3 begins, some major details about the season have already been announced. It has been officially confirmed that the main cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) will be returning to reprise their characters in Star Trek: Picard season 3. The returning actors include Jonathan Frakes as William T. Riker, Levar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, Brent Spiner in an unconfirmed role, and Michael Dorn as Worf.

Now, in a response shared to Twitter, Star Trek: Picard showrunner Matalas confirmed a detail about the appearance of Worf in the upcoming season 3. Matalas responded to a fan who asked whether the Klingon character would be redesigned to look like the Klingons in Star Trek: Discovery, or if he would retain his original appearance. The showrunner’s answer was short and simple: “Worf looks like Worf.” Check out the post below:

Audiences can likely take Matalas’ response to mean that Worf will not be redesigned, and will look as he did in TNG, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and the TNG films. However the question was certainly justified as Klingons have experienced several redesigns over the years, which even Star Trek's lore has struggled to make sense of. Even the design of the character Worf himself shifted over the course of his time on the series, albeit more subtly than the drastic redesign of the Klingons seen with Star Trek: Discovery.

Regardless of his aesthetic appearance, the confirmation of Worf’s presence in Star Trek: Picard season 3 means that Dorn will be able to add to his lead as the actor with the most Star Trek on-screen credits. It also means that audiences, and fans of Dorn’s character in particular, will get to see the Klingon for perhaps the last time, though reports of a Star Trek spin-off focussed on Worf have come in and out of circulation for several years. Either way, audiences still have some time to wait and as Star Trek: Picard season 2 begins to reach its conclusion, they will no doubt have part of their attention on the news of the return of Worf, and others.
