The teaser trailer for Star Trek: Picard season 3 has premiered at Comic-Con. Star Trek: Picard was one of the earliest streaming series in the expanded Paramount+ canon of the Star Trek universe, which began with Star Trek: Discovery and now includes series like the Captain Pike prequel Strange New Worlds as well as the animated series Lower Decks and Prodigy. Picard follows the later-in-life adventures of Patrick Stewart's character Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who was the lead character of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which aired for seven seasons between 1987 and 1994.
Star Trek: Picard has already roped in several former characters and cast members from TNG for cameos, including Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan and John de Lancie as Q. However, the upcoming Picard season 3 will feature the most ambitious crossover yet. The show will reunite nearly every member of the USS Enterprise's crew from The Next Generation, including LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn as Worf, Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, and Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher.
Today at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Paramount hosted a 90-minute Star Trek Universe Panel, in which they unveiled some of the latest developments in their sprawling sci-fi franchise. This included a special teaser for Star Trek: Picard season 3. The clip opens with Picard in front of a blank background saying "you're only as good as those around you," before the rest of the cast appears one by one, accompanied by voiceover lines from their characters. Although filming on Picard season 3 ended in March of this year, they clearly aren't ready to show actual footage yet, as the 2023 premiere date is still some ways off. While the teaser they ended up with does look somewhat like an intro to an episode of Real Housewives, it's still an exciting return. While some of these actors have already reprised their roles in earlier seasons of Picard, some are returning for the first time in many years.
Regardless of whether or not the characters have appeared on Star Trek: Picard individually before, this is the first time so much of the The Next Generation crew has been gathered together in quite some time. Star Trek fans are certain to rejoice in whatever scraps of material they can get for the time being until the season can premiere. Although season 3 will be the final season of the series, it is now certain to go out with a bang.
