Star Trek actor LeVar Burton reveals that he got to film scenes with his daughter on Star Trek: Picard season 3. Picard is a series that launched on Paramount+ in early 2020, following Patrick Stewart's iconic Star Trek: The Next Generation character Captain Jean-Luc Picard in his later years. The show has featured quite a few cameos from TNG, including Whoopi Goldberg as the bartender Guinan and John De Lancie as the interdimensional being Q, but the upcoming third and final season is set to reunite Picard with a huge swath of his former deck crew, including Burton as Geordi LaForge, Marina Sirtis as Commander Deanna Troi, Jonathan Frakes as Commander William T. Riker, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, and Michael Dorn as Lieutenant Worf.

LaForge is one of the key characters of The Next Generation, having appeared on all 176 episodes of its 7-season run. The character is congenitally blind and used a silver visor across his eyes to provide him with vision before he received implants in future seasons. After starting as the helmsman of the USS Enterprise under Captain Picard, he was promoted to chief engineer.

Burton recently sat down with Yahoo! Entertainment to discuss his work on Reading Rainbow and his career as a whole. Inevitably, the topic turned to Star Trek and he revealed that not only has he finished shooting his part on the upcoming Picard season 3, but he was also able to film with his daughter Mica. She plays one of Geordi's two daughters in the series, and the actor described the storyline as being "about the next generation of The Next Generation." Read his full quote below:

It was a lot of fun on so many levels. I also get to work with my kid: my daughter, Mica, plays one of Geordi's two daughters. So the whole storyline really is about the next generation of The Next Generation in many respects.

Burton's daughter Mica has carved out her own space in the fan community, becoming a well-known cosplayer, host, and actress in her own right. She started off as a host for various gaming divisions at the company Rooster Teeth, including Achievement Hunters and The Know before moving on to work with the Overwatch League and Wizards of the Coast. As an actress, she has appeared in 2015's Lazer Team and 2017's The Eleven Little Roosters as well as guest-starring on the second campaign run by the actual play D&D group Critical Role.

The role that Mica is playing in Star Trek: Picard also reveals a little bit about what LaForge has been up to since he has last been seen onscreen in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis. The last time he was seen, he had not had children nor a major romantic partner. Presumably, the series will fill in the gaps and allow viewers a glimpse into LaForge's activities over the past few decades.
