Following the premiere of Star Trek: Picard, here's when and what time the next episode will release. After the success of Star Trek: Discovery, CBS All Access has brought back one of the franchise's most popular and legendary characters, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), to lead the newest series in the franchise, Star Trek: Picard. This marks Stewart's return to the franchise for the first time since the 2002 film, Star Trek: Nemesis.
Set in the final year of the 24th century and 20 years after Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Trek: Picard takes place after the fall of the Romulan Empire. Picard resigned as an Admiral in Starfleet and retired to his family's vineyard in La Barre, France. However, after meeting a young woman named Dahj (Isa Briones), Picard is thrust back into action in order to protect her from Romulan assassins. Along with Picard, the series will feature notable faces from Star Trek: The Next Generation such as William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), and Data (Brent Spiner), with the latter's death in Star Trek: Nemesis significantly affecting Picard and the show's storyline. The series will also introduce new characters played by Alison Pill, Santiago Cabrera, and Michelle Hurd.
After Picard's first episode premiered on January 23, 2020, CBS All Access will release the next episode of Star Trek: Picard on Thursday, January 30, 2020. The first episode dropped shortly after midnight at 12:01 am PST/3:01 am EST so presumably, that will be the standard as to when the episodes will air. Outside of the United States, episodes of Star Trek: Picard will be released the following morning on Amazon Prime Video.
Unlike a Netflix show, Star Trek: Picard will be released weekly throughout the entirety of its ten-episode first season. Following the release of the second episode, the third and fourth episodes are scheduled for February 6, 2020, and February 13, 2020, respectively. After that, the exact dates of the episodes are unofficial, but the expectation is one episode will be released every week from now until the finale.
As more shows debut on streaming services, the debate on whether to release episodes weekly or all at once will continue to heat up. In the case of a show like Stranger Things, bingeing the entire series was extremely beneficial to its success as 40.7 million Netflix users watched parts of the show's third season in the first four days after its release. On the flip side, releasing shows weekly can allow viewers to properly digest each episode and create long, sustainable discussions on social media as evidenced by The Mandalorian. Since Star Trek: Picard has such a popular fanbase, fans will tune in whether episodes are released weekly or daily.
