Jonathan Frakes discusses his hopes that Star Trek: Picard season 3 will receive an Emmy nomination. Acclaimed by critics and fans alike, Picard season 3 has delivered on being a worthy follow-up to Star Trek: The Next Generation, giving the iconic characters one more adventure to save the galaxy. The series finale of Star Trek: Picard streams on Paramount+ Thursday, April 20th, and it's receiving an impressive sendoff as the final two episodes will be screened in IMAX in 10 cities on Wednesday, April 19th.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant to raise awareness for Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer, Jonathan Frakes was asked about Emmy chances for Star Trek: Picard season 3 and for his own performance as Captain William T. Riker. Read his quotes below:

Screen Rant: There's a lot of chatter online about an Emmy nomination for you. Everybody says, and I agree, you've never been better as Riker.

Jonathan Frakes: From your mouth to God's ears.

TNG was the only Star Trek series to get the best drama nomination back in 1994. Maybe Picard will be considered. Maybe lightning will strike twice.

Jonathan Frakes: Let's hope. We're doing a screening for the Television Academy for the final two episodes. Next week, I believe?

Yeah, the IMAX screening. Yeah.

Jonathan Frakes: Yeah. It would be a great way to finish things up. Get Patrick a nomination, get the show nominated. It'd be just brilliant.

Picard TNG Cast Together

Star Trek: Picard season 3's finale is being screened in IMAX for the Television Academy on Wednesday, April 19, with a Q&A with the cast and executive producers to follow. Perhaps this will result in a deserved Emmy nod for Star Trek: Picard season 3. The biggest mainstream awards have proven elusive for Star Trek outside of Star Trek: The Next Generation's historic nomination for Best Drama in 1994, which was the apex of TNG's popularity as it transitioned from a TV show in season 7 to feature films.

29 years later, Star Trek: Picard season 3 has been the most acclaimed Star Trek show on Paramount+ outside of season 1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is 99% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and was on many Best of 2022 lists. Star Trek: Picard season 3, however, has the undeniable specialness of bringing back the TNG legacy characters, who are all in top and awards-worthy form. Jonathan Frakes is right that an Emmy nod for the series and for Patrick Stewart would be the perfect icing on the cake.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 boasts arguably career-best performances by Patrick Stewart as Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, Michael Dorn as Worf, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, LeVar Burton as Commodore Geordi La Forge, and Jonathan Frakes as Captain Will Riker. Everyone in the cast has delivered exceptional performances, but online chatter on Twitter has praised those TNG icons for taking their characters to another level of emotional complexity. Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 9, "Vox," was particularly powerful in evoking TNG nostalgia by bringing back the beloved USS Enterprise-D, and the series finale, "The Last Generation," is poised to be a spectacular ending that gives Star Trek: The Next Generation the sendoff it deserves. Hopefully, this leads to an Emmy nomination.
