Star Trek: Picard season 3's series finale seemingly closed the book on some of the franchise's most beloved characters, while also hinting at new adventures for a few others. Picard's final episode, "The Last Generation," reunited Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) with his old crew aboard the restored USS Enterprise-D in an effort to stop a Borg attack on Earth and save Picard's son, Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers). It was a thrilling conclusion, and a far better sendoff for the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation than the ill-fated 2002 TNG film Star Trek: Nemesis.

Star Trek: Picard's series finale made sure to check in with essentially every character who survived the season, offering fitting farewells for some and tantalizing hints at further stories for others. Picard showrunner Terry Matalas is keen to work on a followup to the series, tentatively called Star Trek: Legacy. That potential show would be a great way to check in with some franchise icons, but Picard's ending suggests we've likely reached the end of the story for quite a few of these characters.

18 Jean-Luc Picard

Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek Picard season 3 trailer

The legendary Captain of the USS Enterprise-D struggled to find some semblance of peace and purpose in his later life, as seen in Star Trek: Picard's polarizing first season. However, by the end of Picard season 3, he seems to have found a direction for his twilight years. After saving the Federation from a Borg attack and Jack from assimilation, Picard returned to retirement on Earth, where he sought to foster a deeper relationship with Jack and his mother, Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). Reunited with his dearest friends from his days on the Enterprise-D, Jean-Luc Picard finally seems to be content with his life.

17 Will Riker

Admiral Riker Picard

Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) had an eventful time during Star Trek: Picard season 3. While joining Picard to help track down the imperiled Beverly Crusher, Riker was forced to deal with his lingering grief and trauma related to the death of his son, Thad. That grief had a profound effect on his marriage to Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), with the couple actually separated at the beginning of the season. While imprisoned together on Captain Vadic's (Amanda Plummer) ship, Riker and Troi reconciled and resolved to make changes in their lives to help them move on. The relatively happy couple were planning a galaxy-hopping vacation as the series ended.

16 Data

Data Okay

The beloved android Data (Brent Spiner) seemingly died in Star Trek: Nemesis, only to perish all over again in Star Trek: Picard's season 1 finale. Picard season 3 brought Data back to life in a new, more human synthetic body. While Data still benefits from a massive intellect and superhuman abilities, he's now also able to process feelings and emotions in a much more human way. Data was essentially dead for two decades, so his status in Starfleet is a bit murky. However, with a new lust for life and the support of his old friends from the USS Enterprise-D, the future for Data seems limitless.

15 Worf

Worf EW-1

The legendary Klingon warrior Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) spent much of Star Trek: Picard season 3 investigating the conspiracy against the Federation alongside Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd). Worf accompanied Picard and Riker aboard the Borg Cube where Jack was being held, seemingly having a blast as he sliced through Borg drones. After helping burnish Raffi's reputation by leaking classified information, Worf played one last round of poker with his old friends - losing badly, as always - before he began teaching Mugato meditation classes. Of all the original TNG cast members, Worf seems like the one who still has the most story left to tell.

14 Geordi La Forge

Geordi Picard Finale

Now the administrator of the Federation Fleet Museum, Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) spent years restoring the critically damaged USS Enterprise-D, which was a crucial aspect in Picard's efforts to save Jack and the Federation as a whole from the Borg. Geordi's reunion with his best friend Data was one of the series' high points, as was Geordi's complicated relationship with his daughter, Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut). Geordi still oversees the Fleet Museum, and if Star Trek: Legacy ends up happening, it seems likely he'd stop by the USS Enterprise-G occasionally to check in on his daughter.

13 Beverly Crusher

Admiral Crusher Picard Finale

After abruptly disappearing over two decades earlier, Star Trek: Picard season 3 saw Dr. Beverly Crusher return to the fray with her previously secret son with Jean-Luc Picard, Jack, along for the ride. Beverly played an important role in obliterating the biological Borg virus that affected most Starfleet personnel during Frontier Day celebrations. After Jack was rescued and the Borg defeated, Beverly was eventually promoted to Admiral and put in charge of Starfleet Medical. Despite her earlier trepidations about Picard having a role in Jack's life, she eventually came to cherish the relationship those two men built together.

12 Deanna Troi

Deanna Troi in Star Trek: Picard season 3

Of all the returning Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members, Deanna Troi had the smallest role to play in Star Trek: Picard season 3, but she was an important player in the show's endgame. Using her Betazoid empathic abilities, Troi was able to locate Riker and the rest of the away team aboard the Borg Cube, impressively steering the USS Enterprise-D to their location and saving them just in time. Troi reconciled with her estranged husband, Will Riker, over their shared grief for their late son, resolving to leave the beautiful but dull planet Nepenthe behind for new adventures, starting with a vacation to either Kaphar Prime or Orlando.

11 Seven Of Nine

Seven of Nine Tuvok Picard

Seven Of Nine (Jeri Ryan) spent most of Star Trek: Picard season 3 as a Commander and First Officer aboard the USS Titan-A under Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick). Despite her contentious relationship with the Borg-phobic Shaw, he recommended to Starfleet that she be promoted to Captain before his death. A year after the Borg attack on Frontier Day, Seven was in command of the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-G - formerly the USS Titan-A - with much of the same crew, as well as a few intriguing additions. The potential Star Trek: Legacy spinoff would chronicle her adventures as the Enterprise-G explores the final frontier.

10 Raffi Musiker

Raffi EW-1

The brilliant but troubled Commander Raffi Musiker spent the majority of Star Trek: Picard season 3 alongside Worf, as they investigated the conspiracy against the Federation. After the Borg were defeated, Worf leaked classified information about Raffi's covert Starfleet service in an attempt to help her estranged family understand why she was so determined and obsessive about her work. A year after the Frontier Day attack, Raffi was named First Officer of the USS Enterprise-G alongside her friend and former lover, Captain Seven Of Nine. The tumultuous story of Raffi Musiker is likely not over.

9 Jack Crusher

Jack Crusher Holodeck Toast

Jack Crusher spent most of Star Trek: Picard grappling with his relationship with his father, Jean-Luc Picard, as well as the disturbing dreams and visions he'd suffered from since childhood. Those visions were eventually revealed as a side effect of Picard's assimilation as Locutus decades earlier, with the Borg seeding Picard with genetic material that would produce a new evolution of the Borg through Jack. A year after being rescued by Picard and friends, Jack completed an expedited course at Starfleet Academy and was granted the rank of Ensign, serving aboard the USS Enterprise-G as a special counselor to Captain Seven Of Nine.

8 USS Titan-A Bridge Crew

The U.S.S. Titan appears in Star Trek: Picard season 3 trailer.

The majority of Captain Liam Shaw's bridge crew aboard the USS Titan-A survived Star Trek: Picard season 3, even though most of them were infected with the biological Borg virus. Now a Lieutenant, Sidney La Forge remains at the helm of the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-G. The Bajoran Lieutenant Matthew Mura (Joseph Lee) remains at tactical, while the Haliian Ensign Kova Esmar (Jin Maley) is still the ship's primary communications officer. While they played relatively small roles on Picard, the bridge crew would likely get much more to do if Star Trek: Legacy ends up being a reality.

7 Tuvok

Tim Russ as Tuvok in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 7, "Dominion"

One of the most beloved characters from Star Trek: Voyager, the Vulcan Captain Tuvok (Tim Russ) was captured by Changelings and replaced by a doppelganger in the lead up to the Frontier Day attack. He was rescued after the Borg and Changelings were defeated, and was given an assignment he clearly relished - informing his old friend Seven Of Nine of her promotion to Captain. Tuvok's time on Star Trek: Picard was delightful but brief; while he obviously wouldn't be a member of the USS Enterprise-G crew, hopefully he would have more of a presence on Star Trek: Legacy.

6 Ro Laren

Picard Ro Laren Death

Picard's former protégé, the troubled Bajoran Commander Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) turned herself in to Starfleet authorities after the dissolution of the Maquis, the terrorist organization she defected from Starfleet to join in Star Trek: The Next Generation's season 7 episode "Preemptive Strike." She was re-admitted to Starfleet years later as an intelligence officer, to Picard's utter shock. After reconciling with Picard over her betrayal, she revealed to him the scope of the conspiracy against Starfleet. Ro was tragically killed when Changeling operatives planted a bomb on her shuttle, devastating Picard and resulting in him taking on her mission.

5 Elizabeth Shelby

Admiral Shelby Picard

Last seen in the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation two-part episode "The Best Of Both Worlds," the blunt, ambitious Elizabeth Shelby (Elizabeth Dennehy) ascended to the rank of Admiral by Star Trek: Picard season 3. She even got to command the Starfleet flagship, the USS Enterprise-F, during Frontier Day festivities. Admiral Shelby was attacked by her own bridge crew when the biological Borg virus took hold of them. While she was shot point-blank in the chest twice, showrunner Terry Matalas has suggested it's possible Shelby survived the ordeal and will go on to annoy Will Riker for many years to come.

4 The Borg Queen

Borg Queen Picard Season 3 Finale

The Prime universe Borg Queen (Alice Krige) was revealed as the mastermind behind the attack on the Federation in the Star Trek: Picard season 3 episode "Vox." She intended to use Jack Crusher to create a new evolution of the Borg following their decimation at the hands of Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) in the Star Trek: Voyager series finale "Endgame." Disfigured and rage-fueled, the Borg Queen has never seemed more lethal and dangerous. She was eventually thwarted by her former pet project, Jean-Luc Picard, who rescued Jack from assimilation as the USS Enterprise-D destroyed her ship, killing her and seemingly ending the Borg threat for good.

3 Wesley Crusher

Wesley Crusher In Picard Season 2

With the exception of the long-dead Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby), Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) was the only original Star Trek: The Next Generation cast member to not appear in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Wesley did make a cameo in the finale of Picard season 2, confirming he's still a Traveler who traverses higher planes of existence and helps keep order in the universe. At one point Beverly Crusher seemingly confirmed she had not seen Wesley in many years, raising the question of whether Wesley even knows he now has a brother. A Wesley/Jack encounter would be a potentially great story for Star Trek: Legacy to tell.

2 Guinan

Star Trek Picard Guinan

The wise, mysterious El-Aurian who tended bar aboard the USS Enterprise-D, Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) played a crucial role in Star Trek: Picard's time-hopping season 2. Guinan established a bar in Los Angeles on Earth called Ten Forward, a frequent location in Picard season 3. Likely due to Goldberg's busy schedule, Guinan didn't actually appear in Picard season 3, though she was referenced in the season premiere and series finale, both instances suggesting she was present at Ten Forward but off camera. While we didn't get to see it, it's easy to imagine Guinan's delight at seeing the crew of the USS Enterprise-D enjoying a game of poker in her bar.

1 Q

John de Lancie as Q in Star Trek: Picard season 3

The omnipotent trickster known as Q (John de Lancie) has been poking at Jean-Luc Picard since the very first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He returned in Star Trek: Picard season 2 to teach Picard one final lesson before he died, despite the fact it was earlier established that death was nearly impossible for members of the Q Continuum. Despite his seeming demise at the end of season 2, Q returned in Star Trek: Picard's final scene, informing Jack Crusher that while his father's ongoing galactic trial may have ended, his was just beginning.
