The midseason trailer for Star Trek: Discovery season 4 sees a terrifying new threat surface as the search for Book and Tarka continues. Star Trek: Discovery is the seventh series in the ever-expanding Star Trek universe, coming between Star Trek: Enterprise, which ran from 2001 to 2005, and Star Trek: Picard, which began in 2020 and has set its season 2 premiere for February 2022. Discovery has come a long way since its premiere on CBS All Access in 2017. In addition to the external factors, including the streaming platform rebranding as Paramount+, fans have been able to watch the growth of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) from a disgraced mutiny-sowing xeno-anthropologist to the captain of the starship Discovery.

Burnham's captainship has not started out easy in the first 7 episodes of season 4, which just aired its midseason finale on December 30. The crew has been faced with the existential terror of the Dark Matter Anomaly (aka DMA), which they seem no closer to fully understanding. After Tarka (Shawn Doyle) invented a weapon that he believes is capable of destroying the entity, the Federation chose to opt for a diplomatic response. This caused Tarka and Book (David Ajala) to go rogue and attempt to defeat the menace on their own.

Paramount+ just dropped a new trailer promoting the second half of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 (via ScifinewsDE), which will resume on February 10, 2022. The trailer picks up where the finale left off, with the remaining Discovery crew desperately attempting to track down their rogue members. However, they soon discover that Tarka and Book may be the least of their worries as a new unseen force threatens the ship. Check out the trailer below:

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 also stars returning cast members Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, and Wilson Cruz. Several guest stars from previous seasons have also jumped back in, including Blu del Barrio as Adira Tal, Star Trek's first non-binary character. They are joined by comedian Tig Notaro, The OA's Ian Alexander, noted body horror director David Cronenberg, The Mummy's Oded Fehr, and Impulse's Tara Rosling as President T'Rina.

The crew of Star Trek: Discovery have some great challenges ahead of them, and if Captain Burnham can lead them through the darkness, she will certainly have proven her mettle and earned their respect. Even though this is hopefully how the season will conclude, it's inevitable that some other conflict will arise to wreak havoc in season 5, leaving fans with yet another massive cliffhanger. However, that bridge will be crossed when it is come to. At the moment, the DMA seems to be an insurmountable threat that might just be tearing the crew apart at the seams.
