Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise confirms, via a new picture, that the writing for season 4 has officially been completed. Paramount+'s first Star Trek series (which premiered when the streaming service was still CBS All Access) is still going strong four years after its debut, with season 3 wrapping up at the start of this year. After two action-packed seasons, Star Trek: Discovery took the franchise into brand new territory by launching its characters, led by Sonequa Martin-Green's Michael Burnham, into the 32nd century. This presented new challenges and a compelling mystery in the form of an event known as the Burn.

Star Trek: Discovery was officially renewed for season 4 in October of last year, and production kicked off not long after. This season will keep newly-minted Captain Burnham in the future along with her crew as the Federation attempts to rebuild around them. However, as the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery season 4 confirmed, they will have to contend with a strange new threat, one that isn't actually a living being. With that in mind, it looks like Star Trek: Discovery will continue to push the franchise into fresh territory.

Work on Star Trek: Discovery season 4 continues, but one major milestone has been passed. Showrunner Paradise posted an update on Friday confirming the entirety of the season has been written. "A long journey to type these words. But here they are..." Paradise wrote. She attached a picture of the final words of what must be the season 4 finale script: "End of season four." You can see her full post down below.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 has not been without its obstacles. Though filming was able to kick off last year, Discovery had to stop in late April due to a COVID-19 exposure. One can assume they have since resumed production, though it remains to be seen if their previously reported June end date will hold firm. With the scripts having been completed, though, the final episodes of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 at least won't be held up by any writing issues. A premiere date hasn't been given just yet, though the trailer said it would arrive in 2021. Only time will tell if that is still the case.

Aside from its strange new threat, much of Star Trek: Discovery's season 4 story remains a mystery. Burnham will have to adjust to her new position as captain, and series star Anthony Rapp has teased an exciting new onscreen partnership for himself. Now that the entire season has fully taken shape in script form, all that's left is for filming and post-production to be complete. Once that happens, new details about what lies ahead for Star Trek: Discovery may finally emerge.
