Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for season 4, with production to begin on November 2. Streaming exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and on Netflix worldwide, Star Trek: Discovery has proved a tremendous success. It led CBS to sign off on an ever-expanding range of Star Trek spinoffs, including the likes of Star Trek: Picard and the upcoming Discovery spinoff Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In fact, writer and producer Alex Kurtzman said recently that they have the next six years of Star Trek TV shows planned out, which surely included more seasons of Star Trek: Discovery.

Star Trek: Discovery season 3 has just launched, with Michael Burnham and her crew boldly going into the 32nd century. It's essentially a relaunch for the entire series, with the crew of the USS Discovery becoming a symbol of the once-mighty Federation in a future where Starfleet has crumbled. The producers have routinely talked about this as the beginning of a new arc for Star Trek: Discovery, so it's long seemed only a matter of time before fans received news about season 4.

Finally, CBS has indeed confirmed Star Trek: Discovery will return for season 4 - and that it will begin production in just a fortnight's time, on November 2. They've released an official video featuring stars Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham) and Doug Jones (Saru), both of whom express their delight about returning to the sets to begin filming season 4. "I am looking forward to the one thing I always look most forward to when we get to come back for another season of Star Trek: Discovery," Jones observes. "To be reunited with my family again - the Trek family, the Discovery family. To be able to at least be in the same room again, even if we can't hug each other right away."

The first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery have tested the crew's devotion to the ideals of Starfleet, and now they have been transported to a dystopian future where those are considered outdated. "The past is a foreign country," L.P. Hartley famously observed. "They do things differently there." Burnham and her friends are about to learn the same is true of the future, as they explore the strangest new world they have ever set foot upon.

Star Trek: Discovery season 3 will run for 13 episodes, releasing every Thursday on CBS All Access in the United States and on Fridays on Netflix for the rest of the world. The video doesn't give viewers any sense of what to expect, but it does at least confirm Burnham and Saru will both survive this season. Anybody else should be considered fair game, because this mysterious new future will surely be filled with just as many enemies as friends.
