Star Trek: Discovery season 4 is taking flight with this new image of Burnham in the captain's seat. The streaming exclusive show originally premiered in 2017, back when Paramount+ was still known as CBS All Access. It's the flagship show of Paramount+'s Star Trek universe which now also includes Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower DecksDiscovery Season 4 has already completed filming and will premiere later this year, with a potential fifth season already being hinted at.

Star Trek: Discovery follows the journey of Michael Burnham, a xeno-anthropologist played by Sonequa Martin-Green. The show, which takes place about ten years before the events of The Original Series, sees Burnham hired as a science specialist on the U.S.S. Discovery after being imprisoned for mutiny on the USS Shenzhou. Throughout the series, the crew of the Discovery helps end the Klingon war, fights a rogue AI, and gets stranded in the future. Season 3 ended with Burnham finally rising to the coveted role of Captain.

Although plot details are still scarce, it has been announced that Burnham's first days as Captain of the U.S.S. Discovery will not be easy. A brand new non-living threat will force Federation and non-Federation worlds to put aside their differences and work together to confront the unknown. This season will feature the return of more familiar faces including Saru (Doug Jones), Paul Stamers (Anthony Rapp), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), Cleveland "Book" Booker (David Ajaa), and Adira (Blu del Barrio).

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 is sending the show off in a bold new direction with the new Captain Burnham leading their adventure into the 32nd century. It will be interesting to see how this appointment changes the dynamic of the crew going forward, and how that will impact their ability to face the unprecedented threat that is about to present itself. With this new appointment, Discovery has certainly found an exciting way to keep the show fresh and continue Burnham's character arc by presenting her with a variety of new challenges.
