The trailer for the Star Trek documentary, The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek, is jam-packed with cast members from across the show's many iterations. Star Trek was originally created by Gene Roddenberry in 1966 for NBC, introducing the first generation of fans to the USS Enterprise and its mission to boldly go where no man has gone before. The Original Series only ran for three seasons before it was canceled due to low ratings in a decision that producers probably regret to this day.

After the series became popular on syndication, it spawned a massively successful franchise that runs to this day. It's impossible to encompass the entire scope of Star Trek's influence over the culture, but it includes 10 television series, 13 films, and a whole slew of books, comics, games, and magazines. The franchise shows no signs of slowing down, with two upcoming animated series in production and new seasons coming from multiple series, including season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery.

Nacelle Company recently released a trailer for The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek. The documentary is a deep dive into the creation of the long-running franchise, not afraid to dive into the way the show affected the lives of the people behind it, for better or for worse. The vast array of performers from across the different series includes F. Murray Abraham, Kate Mulgrew, Kirstie Allie, Denise Crosby, Robert Beltran, Wil Wheaton, along with The Original Series' Brent Spiner and Walter Koenig. Check out the trailer below:

The Center Seat was directed by Brian Volk-Weiss, a producer and director of comedy specials and docuseries including Down to Earth with Zac Efron and The Movies That Made Us. He previously explored the final frontier when he executive produced the TV documentary, 50 Years of Star Trek, in 2016. The documentary is narrated by Gates McFadden, who portrayed Beverly Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as a subsequent 4 movies and 2 video games. The Center Seat will premiere on The History Channel this Fall.

Two notable absences from this trailer are original Star Trek series actors William Shatner and George Takei, who portrayed Captain Kirk and Sulu respectively. Shatner is going to space on October 12, reportedly as part of a documentary, so there's a chance that he didn't sit down with this crew because of his participation in that rival doc. It's unclear if George Takei will be participating in that documentary as well, or if he declined both offers.
