Bradley Cooper shares the screen with Lady Gaga in the trailer for A Star is Born. Cooper's American Sniper director Clint Eastwood has his eye on remaking A Star is Born back in 2011 and even had Beyonce lined up to play the movie's female lead. When that iteration of the project fell apart, Cooper signed on to call the shots instead. He also plays the film's male lead and cowrote the script with Oscar-winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich) and Will Fetters (The Best of Me).

Cooper stars in A Star is Born as Jackson Maine, an older musician who crosses paths with a struggling young artist named Ally (Gaga) and decides to take her under his wing. Turns out, Jackson's instincts were on the money too; Ally's music career begins to take off under his tutelage, even after the pair become romantically involved. At the same time, however, their personal relationship starts to fall apart as Jackson struggles get a handle on his personal demons and make peace with the fact that his own time in the spotlight is nearing its end.

Warner Bros. moved A Star is Born's release date back late last year, in an effort to give the film a more awards season-friendly October launch date. The musician melodrama has only continued to generate positive buzz over the last month, following its showing at CinemaCon back in April. An official trailer for A Star is Born is now online too, ahead of its debut in theaters with Ocean's Eight this weekend. Take a look in the space above, then check out the poster below.

Cooper's film is the third remake of the original 1937 film A Star is Born, but appears to follow a trajectory similar to the previous versions. The trailer alone shows Jackson and Ally meeting, falling in love, and performing together on the stage, with hints of Jackson's personal struggles sprinkled here and there. Gaga and Cooper even wrote the movie's songs together in real life with a few other artists (Lukas Nelson, Jason Isbell, and Mark Ronson among them) and recorded them live during production.

Based on the trailer, A Star is Born combines the feeling of an old-fashioned romantic melodrama with a more contemporary grounded visual style, courtesy of Darren Aronofsky's frequent cinematographer Matthew Libatique. It's a mixture that's worked well in years past and even earned Jeff Bridges some Oscar love, when he starred in Scott Cooper's own fading musician melodrama Crazy Heart. Who knows, Cooper and Gaga alike may yet find themselves in the Oscar race when A Star is Born hits theaters this fall.
