Romance is definitely blooming between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in a newly-released sneak peek trailer for their upcoming musician romance, A Star is Born. The movie cemented its status as an Oscar frontrunner with its world premiere at the 2018 Venice International Film Festival last week - earning near universal acclaim for not only Gaga and Cooper's performances, but also the direction by Cooper (in his feature-length debut as a filmmaker).

The latest remake of the 1937 classic starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March (which was previously remade in 1954 and 1976), A Star is Born stars Cooper as Jackson Maine, a seasoned musician who meets an aspiring young singer/songwriter named Ally (Gaga) and immediately recognizes her potential for greatness. However, as the pair begin to fall in love and Ally's career starts taking off, Jackson struggles to overcome the battle against not only his personal demons (namely, his alcoholism), but also the unavoidable wear and tear of time.

Following on the heels of its VIFF premiere, EW has unveiled a sneak peek for Cooper's film that's a cross between an extended clip and theatrical preview, as opposed to the more traditional A Star is Born trailer that's been showing in theaters for months. The clip takes place after the scene where Jackson and Ally meet for the first time (at the gay bar where Ally performs). Take a look in the space below.

The onscreen chemistry between Cooper and Gaga has been a major selling point for A Star is Born since pretty much day one, so it only makes sense for this new trailer to zero in on that particular element of the film. There may be some real fire behind all that smoke as well, if the early raves are to be believed. Assuming that enthusiastic buzz continues to grow in volume over the coming months, both Cooper and Gaga should be on their way to securing acting Oscar nominations for A Star is Born (their fourth and first nods for acting, respectively).

A Star is Born's next test will be at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it will screen for even more critics on Friday, September 7. The film hits theaters just under a month after that, so it won't be much longer until general audiences get to decide whether Cooper and Gaga's collaboration lives up to the hype. However, judging by the promising trailer footage and pre-release acclaim, it seems A Star is Born may yet manage to meet those expectations.
