Stan Lee receives a touching tribute in a new piece of Marvel fan art. The entertainment industry continues to mourn the loss of Lee, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 95. It goes without saying the plethora of characters he co-created touched millions of people around the world, and many of them are now household names thanks to the record-breaking success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lee's impact cannot be overstated and the world won't be the same without him.

Since Lee's death, there have been a number of tributes shared from fans and Marvel creatives. The original six Avengers of the MCU even took out a full magazine ad to pay their respects to the late legend. And now, a new illustration commemorating Lee is sure to make fans shed some more tears.

BossLogic took to Twitter to share his latest piece, which depicts several Marvel characters attending Lee's funeral. As the artist notes, the lineup of heroes and villains consists of those Lee created, as well as other popular ones (like Deadpool). Fittingly engraved in the coffin is Lee's trademark catchphrase, "Excelsior." Check it out in the space below:

The sheer number of characters featured in the drawing speak to Lee's incredible legacy and how prolific his career was, as he had a hand in creating some of pop culture's most iconic superheroes. What's more is that all of the ones in BossLogic's art will be recognizable to die-hard comics readers and casual moviegoers alike. The current golden age of comic book movie adaptations helped Lee's creations find new audiences and reach extremely high levels of popularity. Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe even revolutionized Hollywood by changing the norm for tentpole franchise building, influencing others to find their own shared universes. Many have tried, but none cracked the code like Marvel did, and Lee deserves a lion's share of the credit because his characters are the foundation on which the MCU is built. In many cases, Peter Parker, Tony Stark, and Steve Rogers (among others) are more interesting than their super-powered alter egos.

Lee, of course, was as famous a character as any of his creations due to his famous cameos that were a staple of the Marvel movies. Since Lee typically filmed them in bunches, it means he should grace the big screen a couple more times in 2019 - most likely in Captain Marvel and Avengers 4. It's unknown if he shot a cameo for Spider-Man: Far From Home, but with Avengers 4 serving as the culmination of the MCU's 22-movie arc (before a new saga begins), that film would be a perfect sendoff for the man who made all this possible.
