UPDATE: Read our obituary for the late, great Stan Lee.

Legendary comic creator Stan Lee has filmed at least three more cameos for films produced by Marvel Studios. Such is the word from Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo.

Lee has become something of a mascot for Marvel Studios, appearing in several of their films and television series. Lee's cameos are frequently a highlight of the creative works and fans delight in seeing the variety of ways in which "Uncle Stan" is snuck into the narrative. Indeed, Lee's cameos gave rise to a theory, seemingly confirmed in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, that all of his cameos were the same character and that Lee was a member of The Watchers - an alien race charged with observing but not interfering with cosmic events of great importance.

Joe Russo confirmed Stan Lee's upcoming appearances during an interview with BBC Radio. The subject of Lee's cameos and the difficulties in working around the elderly writer's schedule came up and Russo explained that this was dealt with through clever scheduling that allowed Lee to film multiple scenes during a single trip.

"So, Stan, typically we try to get him out — he doesn’t love to fly — so we try to get him out for his cameos around the same time. So if we have other movies shooting on the same lot that we’re on, for instance Ant-Man 2 or Avengers 4, we group his cameos together and then move him from one set to the next and kind of get him through his cameos in one day."

Lee's comfort is of paramount importance to Marvel Studios, particularly in light of recent allegations of elder abuse by Lee's handlers. For his part, Lee loves his second career as a movie star despite his reported hatred of the travel involved. Lee recently quipped on his Twitter account that he hopes The Oscars creates a category for Best Cameo Performance so that he can claim a statue of his own in 2019.

It's unknown if Stan Lee has also filmed a cameo for Deadpool 2, but it does seem likely. He appeared in the original Deadpool playing a disc-jockey and had a cameo in the first teaser trailer for Deadpool 2.  This is notable as most of Stan's film cameos have been in movies based on characters he had a hand in creating.

The one notable exception to this - the 2015 Fantastic Four movie - went on to be a critical and commercial failure. While we cannot credit reports of a curse for Marvel movies that do not pay tribute to Stan Lee with a cameo, it doesn't seem likely Marvel Studios will stop featuring the beloved creator anytime soon.
