Stan Lee never got a chance to see Avengers: Endgame before he died. The co-creator of some of the most iconic comic characters ever put into print, Lee has cameoed in every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as other Marvel films, like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and the X-Men franchise. However, even though he snuck in one of his best cameos in Avengers: Endgame, he never actually got around to seeing the film.

With a name as synonymous with Marvel as any one of its many characters, Lee has been involved with most Marvel adaptations - especially those within the MCU. Though he wasn't creatively or professionally affiliated with the films (his executive producer credits were more symbolic gestures than active titles), his presence still played a significant role. He attended premieres, took part in fun cameos, and was respected as the foundation to the entire MCU. However, having passed away in November 2018 at the age of 95, Lee didn't get to see one of the MCU's greatest achievements.

During a Reddit AMA with Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios president answered a number of questions pertaining to his massive eleven-year-old cinematic universe. And, while there were plenty questions and answers aimed at the MCU and its characters, one answer revealed a deeply unfortunate fact: Stan Lee never got to see Avengers: Endgame. When asked how much Lee had known about Avengers: Endgame before he passed away and whether or not he was given his own screening before his death, Feige said:

"Stan loved to wait to see the final movie at the premiere, so unfortunately he did not get to see the finished movie. Stan got a download of the full story the day he came and shot his cameo."

As unfortunate as it might be that Lee never got to see the closing chapter of the MCU's Infinity Saga, his legacy will, of course, live on well after his death. Marvel Studios is currently working on a behind-the-scenes compilation of all of Lee's cameos in the MCU; the video will include B-roll footage of his cameos, and it'll even include a deleted scene from the first Avengers film in which Lee had cameoed. While this doesn't make up for the fact that he missed out on Avengers: Endgame, it's one of many touching farewells for Lee from the Marvel Studios team.

With Spider-Man: Far From Home being the first film in the MCU that Lee hasn't cameoed in, it'll be interesting to see how Marvel Studios honors the late legend - especially since Spider-Man was one of his favorite characters. Whatever direction they take, Marvel Studios surely has some creative trick up its sleeve to let audiences know that Stan Lee will never be forgotten.
