In addition to gaining a huge fandom worldwide and inspiring some fun memes, Squid Game has lots of fans talking about the different uniforms the characters wore. In the show, both the players and most of the staff were defined by numbers, with their uniforms serving as the only thing that set them apart.

The show focused on a number of players, giving them unique traits that fans either loved or hated. The staff, however, barely spoke and it was impossible to tell one from the other except by their rankings. Although most of them wore similarly colored jumpsuits, their masks had different shapes on them, denoting their rank and how much power they had when it came to controlling the games.

The Salesman

Although the salesman only appeared twice in the entire show, he was the first point of contact between the players and the organizers of the game. With his briefcase of cash and daakji envelopes, he lured players in by offering them an easy way to make money.

The show didn't dwell much on how the players were specifically targeted, apart from having crippling debt in common. However, it seems the salesman approached a specific group of people that had already been chosen on this basis. After several rounds of ddakji—arguably the easiest game in Squid Gamehe gave them a card with a logo and a phone number for the players to call for the chance to play more games and make money.

The Circles

The majority of workers seen throughout the games wore jumpsuits and masks with a circle on them. Their duties involved leading players to their next games, preparing some of the games (like the honeycomb candy), and carrying dead players away to incinerate them.

On that basis, they were akin to general hands who were simply there to do the heavy lifting and weren't even allowed to speak to the players or each other and could only answer to their superiors when they were spoken to. A few of them had a side business running for a while, harvesting organs with the help of one of the players until they were all eliminated for compromising the fairness of the games.

The VIPs' Waiters

When the VIPs arrived in episode 7,  they were led to a special room to sit, eat, and watch the games live. In that room, they were served by waiters wearing a black uniform and a special black mask that had a unique pattern and no shape drawn on it.

Similar to the circles, these were general workers as well, but a little more important since they were serving the VIPs whom most of the staff didn't get to interact with. Fans didn't see much of them either but shared some controversial opinions about the Squid Game elite on Reddit. The waiters didn't carry weapons or give commands to anyone, though, so as far as power is concerned, they were basically at the bottom of the barrel too.

The Triangles

Apart from the circles, staff members that were regularly seen in large numbers were those wearing jumpsuits and masks with a triangle on them. They were usually armed and monitored most of the games in close range, ready to eliminate the players that failed.

They never spoke to the players either and did not hesitate to execute them, most notably during the honeycomb candy game and the marbles one. Although they literally had firepower, their power was limited to the confines of the game so they could only exercise their authority during a round or when ordered to by a superior.

The Squares

On the show, the lowest managerial position was held by staff members who wore jumpsuits and face masks with a square on them. Unlike the lower-level staff, only one of the squares was usually present at a time, and in command of a group of circles or triangles whenever they interacted with the players.

Their duties included making important announcements about the games to the players and giving commands to them and the other staff members. In "Stick to the Team," some squares were also seen in a control room monitoring camera footage of the players and the colorful staircase area.

The Front Man

Front Man in Squid Game

For most of the show, the Front Man was only seen in bits and pieces, either watching the games or talking to someone on the phone in his office. He also made appearances whenever there was a serious issue to deal with, such as the elimination of a staff member who de-masked at gunpoint after a player went rogue when he failed the honeycomb candy game.

From all his interactions with the rest of the staff, it was clear that he had more power than them, especially since he could make life or death decisions as far as players and staff were concerned. While his position made him an interesting character, the reveal of his identity as a former winner and Jun-ho's long-lost brother raised more questions about the enigmatic Front Man. Fans hoping for another season of Squid Game look forward to finding out more about the Front Man.

The Host

Il-Nam smiles in an outside area with other players in the Netflix show Squid Game.

The Host was the organizer of the games and one of the biggest plot twists in Squid Game was the reveal that Il-nam was the man behind it all. In a flashback scene shown, he put down his fancy VIP mask and told the Front Man that this time, he was going to watch the games from within by being one of the players.

As the person in charge of the game, he was the most powerful. Even while he was on the playground, he retained some control without interfering too much in the game. For example when he got the killing to stop in "Stick to the Team" with his plea and the Front Man immediately sent the soldiers in.
