Spanning nine shocking, violent, and visually alluring episodes, Squid Game season 1 was workshopped by Hwang for over a decade and he won't have that much time to lay out all the pieces of the puzzle for the next installment. Indeed, Hwang seems to have a solid vision in place for season 2 that involves a new series of games and the return of Gi-hun and the Front Man. For now, Squid Game fans can expect to witness scattered clues from season 1 come full circle to offer more insight on the plot for season 2.

Squid Game continues to resonate with viewers for being so much more than a thriller series about survival games, as the show explores how desperation can corrode humanity and whether human beings are decent at the core. Indeed, Squid Game shows no sign of slowing down. With the announcement of season 2, Netflix alluded that a Squid Game universe could be in the works. Hwang remains hard at work on Squid Game season 2, as well as developing a new satire show based on the success of Squid Game. It'll be interesting to see how the mastermind behind Squid Game will continue the story in season 2.
