There's a surprising Squid Game detail in episode 5, which may hint at a shocking villain twist in season 2. The first season of Netflix's hit Korean thriller introduced several fan-favorite characters. Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) plays the down-on-his-luck protagonist, competing with hundreds of other desperate players for a chance at millions of dollars. Meanwhile, the Old Man/Oh Il-nam (Oh Yeong-su) pulled on heartstrings, supposedly sacrificing his life for Gi-hun; however, in a twist, the series revealed Il-nam was secretly behind the deadly games all along. The series also introduced a subplot with Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), a police officer searching for his brother. Of course, Jun-ho's brother is secretly The Front Man/Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), who runs the games behind the scenes. In-ho eventually shoots Jun-ho, whose fate is unknown after he falls off a cliff.

Squid Game was an unprecedented hit for Netflix. In its first month, the series reached more than 142 million subscriber households. Due to the massive volume, the series became Netflix's most-streamed show ever. Following its release, the show continued to grow. In its second week, covering September 27 to October 3, viewers streamed the show for more than 3 billion minutes. Because of the enormous success, Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk already said that season 2 is coming.

Despite The Front Man turning on his brother, Squid Game season 2 could hold a twist. In Squid Game episode 5, Jun-ho sneaks around The Front Man's office, looking for information on his brother since he doesn't realize The Front Man is secretly In-ho. While he is wandering around the office, Jun-ho passes an Apple computer. Knives Out director Rian Johnson previously revealed that Apple doesn't allow villains to use iPhones on camera. With that in mind, The Front Man may not indeed be a villain, and he could redeem himself in season 2.

The Apple product may be a hint where the story is going. In Squid Game episode 8, In-ho tries to make Jun-ho come with him before he shoots him, but Jun-ho refuses. Then, when he does shoot Jun-ho, In-ho hits him in the shoulder, perhaps giving his brother a chance to live. The appearance of the Apple computer seems to suggest that In-ho isn't too far gone, and he could make amends in Squid Game season 2 since he's not truly a villain. But, of course, Jun-ho would have to be alive for that to happen, and In-ho has already given his brother a chance at survival.

There are some holes in the theory. First, apple is a Netflix competitor for streaming, so the company likely didn't pay for product placement in Squid Game. Therefore, it's possible that the computer appeared in the scene's background and wasn't given a second thought. Also, The Front Man doesn't use the computer on-camera in the scene, so the villain isn't technically seen using the Apple product in this case. Lastly, Johnson said the villains aren't allowed to use iPhones on-camera, so The Front Man may get a pass with a computer. However, despite these issues, the Apple computer could still hint that The Front Man's behavior is getting a critical update.
