Eugene Kotlyarenko’s upcoming horror/dark comedy, Spree, asks the question: how far is too far when it comes to social media when a sadistic young adult is behind the wheel? With a star-studded cast of social media influencers, celebrities, and comedians, the film is filled with gore and hilarity from start to finish. Here is everything we know about Spree.

Known for playing Steve “The Hair” Harrington in Stranger Things, Joe Keery stars as the main character Kurt Kunkle, a young man who is obsessed with social media. Coincidentally, he works as a driver who picks up celebrities, socialites, business people, and everyone in-between. It is the perfect opportunity to gain notoriety as a budding influencer. Keery recently made way in the horror comedy genre with his role in Austin Vesely’s 2018 film Slice about pizza delivery drivers working at a restaurant that is a gateway to hell. In nearly every role in his relatively short career, Joe Keery has made a name for himself as an actor who can flawlessly execute mixing comedy with horror and sci-fi.

Spree Plot Details

Joe Keery on Spree.

Spree’s basic premise revolves around Kurt Kunkle's desire to become famous on social media through YouTube, Instagram, and live streaming. As he works as a driver, he increases his following by picking up celebrities and influencers. Except, once he has them in his car, Kurt brutalizes them in various ways. Spree takes an unexpected turn when he reveals that his social media presence is built on poisoning, torturing, and manipulating others. In the midst of this killing spree, he streams and uploads reviews and even his crimes.

Spree is a horror comedy which takes the risk of questioning how far is too far on social media, and asks what lengths people will go to become famous. It's apparent that Kurt is attempting to make a statement on what it all means to him—and society at large—under the guise of enjoying various social media platforms.
