Spotify has begun rolling out a new feature that allows users to filter their Liked Songs playlist by genre or mood. The company calls Liked Songs "a collection of you" and notes that they include every genre and mood that you've tapped the heart for in the app. Listening to your Liked Songs on shuffle is a great way to listen to music you know you'll like if you can't decide on which one thing to listen to or just fancy a bit of variation, but sometimes it's nice to listen to one style and that's what this feature offers.

The Liked Songs playlist was added in 2019 as part of a wider redesign of the 'Your Library' section of the Spotify app. Not only does it contain individual songs that a user has liked, but it also includes every song from full albums that a user has liked. This means the playlist can grow pretty big, but since Spotify removed the limit on how many songs a user can have in their library that's no longer an issue and users can tap the heart icon to their heart's content.

Of course, the bigger the Liked Songs playlist is, the more users may want to filter it when they're listening from there and Spotify's introduction of genre and mood filters for the playlist makes that easier to do. Users will be able to filter their Liked Songs playlist using up to 15 categories that are personalized based on what songs are in their collection. The minimum requirement is that a user has 30 tracks in their collection, but there can't be many regular Spotify users for whom that's not the case.

The new filters are currently rolling out to Android and iOS devices in English-speaking markets including the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa first. Once a user's app has received the update, though, they just need to tap the 'Your Library' tab from the app's home screen and then select 'Liked Songs.' Once in the playlist, users will see a slightly reworked header section with options to play from the playlist and to add songs, as well as a Liked Songs count.

In addition, the new filters appear at the bottom of the header section above the user's list of songs. Users with lots of Liked Songs will have more filters and they can scroll horizontally to view them all and see which they fancy using. Tapping on one of the filters rejigs the user's Liked Songs playlist to display just those that fall within that category. It's then possible to press play and begin listening — and, what's more, they'll soon be able to listen in lossless audio quality. As a user's tastes change and songs are added or removed from the Liked Songs playlist, the filters will be updated accordingly.
