Spotify has unveiled a complete overhaul of the Your Library tab for its iOS and Android apps, adding tons of new functionality and making it easier to use than ever before. Spotify is constantly tweaking things to make the streaming experience as enjoyable as possible, and this latest update looks to be one of the best so far in 2021.

For a while now, the Your Library tab in the Spotify app has been pretty barebones. It allows users to view their playlists, followed artists, and liked albums — in addition to showing podcasts they're following and any episodes they've downloaded. All of this is fine on the surface, but for users with heaps of playlists, tons of liked songs, and multiple podcasts they're listening to, it can make the Your Library page feel pretty overwhelming. Looking to address that head-on, Spotify is giving Your Library a few much-needed tools that should really come in handy.

Right off the bat, the Your Library page has a few noticeable design tweaks. Instead of showing large tabs for Music and Podcasts at the top, it now shows the user's profile picture and has shortcuts for searching through the library or creating a new playlist. The new search function searches the entirety of a user's library, whereas the previous version had multiple search bars for playlists, artists, and albums. By having one search bar for everything (including podcasts, now), Spotify says searching for a specific item in Your Library should be a lot more seamless.

Spotify Added Dynamic Filters, A Grid View, And More

New features in the Spotify Your Library update announced in April 2021

Another big change is the use of dynamic filters. These filters are present at the top of Your Library and include Playlists, Artists, Albums, Podcasts & Shows, and Downloaded. Not only are there more filter options than before, but they can also be stacked on top of each other. For example, a user can tap the Playlists and Downloaded filters to only view playlists downloaded to their device for offline playback. Spotify has also added improved sorting options, allowing people to view their library alphabetically, by recently played tracks, or by creator/artist name.

As if that wasn't enough organization, the new Your Library now allows users to pin up to four playlists, albums, or podcasts at the top of the page for easy access at all times. A pin is added by swiping right on an item and tapping the 'Pin' icon, and these can be added/removed whenever a user sees fit. Rounding everything out, Spotify has also added a new Grid view that enlarges the tiles of everything in Your Library to make the page more visual and glanceable.

Your Library has started to feel like an afterthought compared to the rest of the Spotify app, so it's great to see it get the attention it deserves. Managing endless songs and podcasts is easier said than done, and hopefully with these new tools, doing that is about to get considerably easier. For anyone eager to get their hands on the new Your Library for themselves, Spotify says it's rolling out to iOS and Android "in the coming week."
